Friday’s Five

Hey Cats!

Happy Friday…we made it! I feel like this week has flown by, which is great because I’m looking forward to a fun and relaxing weekend. I’m going dancing with some new friends tonight, and then Saturday I plan to lay by the pool until I finish my book, or until I finally reach an acceptable level of tan, whichever comes first.

Here’s what I’ve been loving this week!

1. Fruity Ice Cubes

Ashley-Brooke-Designs-Fruit-Ice-Cubes-1024x676

I saw these pretty little ice cubes on Ashley Brooke Designs’ Instagram a week or so ago, and I died. 1. They’re beautiful, 2. This looks like a foolproof way to have infused water whenever I want. I had every intention of making these, so I bought raspberries, lemons, and limes at the grocery store. But then I got home and realized that I don’t have ice trays. And then, I went back to the grocery store in the middle of the week because I only had two types of cheese (THE HORROR), and I could not find ice trays anywhere. So we will try another store on another day.

2. Woods comma Elle, Inspirational Figure.

elle-woods2 I found this Buzzfeed article that shares 23 Important Life Lessons You Learned from Elle Woods. You may or may not know that it’s my not-so-secret life dream to be Elle Woods, so obviously I loved it. I used to watch Legally Blonde about once a semester to keep me from giving up, not even a joke.

3. Marley Lilly Downtown Tassel Crossbody

ML-downtown purse

I love my classic monogrammed clutch  from Marley Lilly (you see it in about 75% of my Instagrams), but I’m also obsessed with this new Downtown Tassel purse. It’s a little dressier, and lately I have been fond of the initials rather than the traditional monogram. Not that I would ever turn either one down. This would be so cute for a night out, gameday, or just when you don’t want to carry your huge bag around!

4. Wall Decor

gold-skull

I have been wanting an animal head decoration on my wall for quite some time. That sounds so weird. But you have this photo for reference, so you know I’m not a freak. I like the deer, but I also like this golden cow skull from Benevolent Jewels! This would be cute wedged somewhere in a gallery wall! I like it because it’s like me- a little bit country, but a little bit glam, too. P.S., Benevolent Jewels has totally re-vamped their site, and it’s fabulous! Head over and check it out!

5. Life Saying

i do what i want

I found this on Pinterest the other day, and it made me think of myself. The other day, I told my friends that “I just have this thing where I don’t do anything I don’t want to do”. Once you get to that point in life, it’s just great. So go do whatever you want this weekend, I sure will.

Campus Chic

Hey Cats!

My name is Kristen, and I think I really like sports. Like a lot. This is somewhat of a recent development, and I’m really surprised by it. I even told my mom that I might want to work for a professional sports team, so it’s getting pretty serious. I mean, I’ve always liked football- I’m from Texas and my dad was a coach, so most of my fall Friday nights since birth were spent at football games. And I started to like basketball in high school, when I would cheer at the games. But besides Aggie football games, sporting events are never something I’ve just been dying to go to, until now. I’ve had multiple weekends this semester where I would go to a baseball game and a basketball game, and I even went to two on the same day. Stop. Part of me thinks that it’s because I’m trying to soak up the last bits of my Aggieland experience (true), but I also think I’m developing more diverse interests, which is always a good thing. So now let’s talk about my main interest: clothes.

Just because I’m gaining a sporty side doesn’t mean my wardrobe is going to suffer. I still like to piece together a spirited yet polished look for games- something that says, “I appreciate a good dunk, but I’m still going to talk to my friends when I get bored”. Obviously.

It was still a little chilly at the last basketball game I went to, so I wore my favorite cream sweater from JCPenney, which I have seriously worn the crap out of this winter. I realized I kept wearing the same thing when it showed up in three of my Instagram posts. In a row. Oops. I added a maroon pashmina (similar) and my monogrammed clutch from Benevolent Jewels (20% off with coupon KCODE20!) for a chic touch of my school colors. I threw on my versatile brown Gianni Bini booties, and then capped it all off with my Aggie baseball cap (similar). I like the casual vibe it adds to the outfit, plus my hair was icky that day so everyone wins.

So let’s talk about this clutch a little bit more. I bought this during football season, because that’s when the outfits really matter, and it has proved a great investment to my gameday wardrobe. You can fit your keys, your phone, and your ticket inside and it’s perfect for a day of tailgating/watching the game! Plus it has a chain so you can wear it as a crossbody, which I usually do. There are a rainbow of both clutches and thread colors, so whether you’re a Baylor Bear, a Carolina Tar Heel, an Ole Miss Rebel or anything in-between, they’ve got you covered! It’s the perfect fashionable and functional addition to any sporting event ensemble.

This week is just getting started, but it’s looking to be a busy one- mainly because I stopped doing homework the Wednesday before Spring Break and now I have to catch up. #SeniorYear. With that being said, I will be goin’ up on this Tuesday-up to my hole, reading Marketing and blogging on my breaks.

Julep’s Transition to Fall

Hey Cats!

Happy Tuesday! I am so happy to have the day off of work- even if it is to study for my tests this week. But I plan to stay in my pajamas until I have to go to class (and maybe even when I go to class…jokes, I’ll put on yoga pants) and enjoy some rare time at home.

I was recently contacted  by Julep to create a fall transition outfit inspired by their new fall shades, and was so excited to participate! If there’s two things I love, it’s color-coordination and nail polish. The color that immediately caught my eye was Claudette, a rich, oxblood color. I thought it would pair perfectly with my maroon pants and a neutral sweater to ease into fall! I added riding boots because I spend March-October staring longingly at mine that are tucked away on the top shelf of my closet, and I’m always dying to wear them!  Also, after I finished putting this look together, I came across Roc Solid, a creamy forest green that would look great with these pants!

If you’re looking for some new nail polish this fall (and let’s be honest, we are always looking for new nail polish), head over to Julep for some haute hues that are sure to bring some fun to your fingers!

Trends I’m Loving- Personalized Jewelry

Hey Cats!

Happy Tuesday! I’m so ready for the weekend already (as usual), but this week I’m extra excited- my birthday is on Sunday! I’m so excited to go home and celebrate with my family, and come back and celebrate with my friends! Twenty-one has been fun, but I’m definitely ready to be feelin’ 22- more on that later!

I know that monograms and personalization aren’t really “new” trends in jewelry, but I feel like there are more ways than ever to show off your initials and more through your bling. Here are a few of my favorites:

saturday initial necklace

I love this simple initial necklace from Kate Spade Saturday. It would be a great everyday necklace, and would be a nice way to anchor a few layered necklaces.

benevolent jewels name

Next is this Engraved Bar Necklace from Benevolent Jewels. I love the idea of a name instead of a monogram- or even a Twitter handle for bloggers!

Last are these initial rings, also from Benevolent Jewels. You can wear just one, or you can stack them for all of your initials! This is a cute way to add a small, personal touch to your outfit.

What do you think about personalized jewelry? Let me know!

Today, I’m linking up with Zelle from A Southern Style, Kristina from Medicine & Manicures, Katie from Champagne & Suitcases, and Amanda from As the Wine Cork Turns for #TrendingTuesday- head over and see what’s trendy this Tuesday!

Trends I’m Loving- Summer Statement Necklaces

Hey Cats!

As we’ve previously discussed, I can’t get enough jewelry. While I only have a couple, I am enamored by statement necklaces. The bold shapes and sparkly jewels are eye-catching and can really add a lot to a simple outfit. Lately, I’ve noticed more and more statement necklaces with bright colors and fun textures that are perfect for summer. Here are a few of my favorites!

baublebarnecklaceI’m loving this Crystal Cord Collar Necklace from BaubleBar. It’s such a whimsical mix of casual and glamorous with the cord and the crystals, and is perfect for the summer. The bright colors make a great statement and the cord adds a unique, non-traditional twist. This would be great paired with a black romper and wedges for a night out, or bright shorts and a chambray for daytime.

neonbenevolentjewels

Next is this Blooms By the Stream Necklace from Benevolent Jewels. I love the bright neons mixed with the clear crystals. Also, the shape of this necklace is unique in comparison to other statement necklaces. While the colors are bright and the detailing is intricate, this is still a simple shape and could be worn with a patterned top or dress and not look too busy! Benevolent Jewels has quite the array of statement necklaces (and many other fabulous pieces), so if you find something you like, enter the discount code “KCODE20” at checkout for 20% off your purchase!

saturday fringe necklace

This Silk Tassel Statement Necklace from Kate Spade Saturday is definitely different- and that’s why I love it! The texture of the tassels and leather give it a more bohemian vibe, which we all know I love during the summer. This would pair well with a simple white tee, or under the collar of a button-down.

What do you think about summer statement necklaces? Are there any that have caught your eye? Let me know!

Outfit of the Day- A Citrus Statement

Hey Cats!

Friday was my last day at the law firm I’ve been interning at this summer. While I’m excited to get back to school, I was actually really sad when I left. I’ve really enjoyed getting to know everyone in the office, and they’ve taught me so much! Usually on Fridays I dress more casual, but this time I wanted to wear business casual one last time, since I’ll soon revert to College Station Chic-Norts and a tee. I had on my white capris with this outfit (and it was SO cute), but as I was putting on my makeup, a terrible accident occurred. My foundation exploded, and Ivory 204 went everywhere-on the counter, on the walls, and, of course, my white pants. So I was forced to change into jeans instead. Luckily, I ended up liking this outfit just as much!

The reason I wore this outfit was to feature my new statement necklace and earrings from Benevolent Jewels. I received my order on Thursday (stay tuned to see it all-so fabulous!), and I just HAD to wear something! Since I was going to work, I kept it simple everywhere else with neutral tones and clean lines.

Isn’t this necklace gorgeous? It’s called “Lemon-Lime Statement Necklace”, but I also think it looks like upside-down pineapples. I like the mix of colored stones with rhinestones. I also love the earrings- mostly because they were a surprise! I knew some of the statement necklaces came with earrings, but I didn’t think this one did! Unfortunately, this necklace has sold out since  I purchased it, but there are many more options, including a few new pieces! In case you don’t know, Benevolent Jewels is an online jewelry boutique that donates a percentage of their profits to a different charity quarterly. Beautiful baubles and helping others? Perfect! You should definitely check it out, and if you find something you like (you will), use the promo code “KCODE20” at checkout for 20% off of your purchase!

What’s your favorite way to wear a statement necklace to work?

BIG NEWS- I’m a Benevolent Jewels Ambassador!

Hey Cats!

If you follow me on Twitter, (and if you don’t, you should!) you saw that I mentioned an exciting announcement about Sweet Cats!. Well, this is it! I am pleased to announce that I am now part of the Ambassador Program for Benevolent Jewels! I recently stumbled upon Benevolent  Jewels while catching up on my blog reading, and instantly fell in love with not only the products, but the mission behind the company. According to their site,

“Benevolent Jewels is an online store that seeks to spread awareness about the importance of helping others. The store allows customers to purchase and wear stylish, affordable jewels in order to donate towards a cause. At the end of three months, 20% of our profits will be donated to a philanthropic organization.”

I mean, how cool is that? It’s two of my favorite things combined- fashion and helping others. AND, the company was founded by a fellow Texan, Rice University student Michelle Trejo. I had to get involved somehow! So I joined the Ambassador Program to help promote this great site. The partnership includes a promotional code for you, my readers, that you may use at any time when purchasing fabulous baubles from Benevolent Jewels! To get 20% off of your entire purchase, enter the code “KCODE20” in the promo code box! The jewelry is already a great deal, so the extra savings should be an incentive to buy even more!

This quarter, Benevolent Jewels is donating to Barrio Dogs, an organization based out of Houston, Texas that “aims to raise awareness of available low-cost sterilization for pets, responsible animal care, and prevention of crimes against animals under the State of Texas animal cruelty statutes.”  If you would like to support this cause, head over to Benevolent Jewels— but don’t forget to use the code, KCODE20 for a 20% off discount! I just purchased a few pieces myself, and I can’t wait to share them with you!

What are you waiting for…get to shopping and saving the world!
