Friday’s Five

Hey Cats!

Yay for Friday! My sister is coming to visit tomorrow, so I’m super excited for the weekend. I’m not sure what we’re going to do yet, but I know we’ll have a great time! This week has seemed super short to me, probably because I was home until Monday. Here’s what I’m loving this week:

1.

Turning 22, obviously. I had a great weekend at home with my family filled with shopping, lake and pool time, and (too much of) the best birthday cake ever. Then when I got back to school on Monday, I went to dinner with some of my cute friends at Napa Flats, one of my favorite College Station restaurants, which is the picture above. At first I was a little sad to be turning 22…everyone makes such an ordeal about turning 21, and then after that you’re just old. But I think 22 is going to be a wonderful year full of new adventures, responsibilities, and experiences, and I’m super excited!

2. This week, yesterday to be precise, I finished my online class! WHOOP. This means nothing to do but blog for three weeks until the fall semester starts. And also panic because it’s my last year of college.

3.

saturday fall dress

Kate Spade Saturday released their Fall Collection this week, and I’m LOVING IT. I’m especially taken with their newest pattern, Tic Tac Tile, seen on this adorable Short-Sleeve Shift Dress. Check it out if you have a chance!

4. I acquired a large baguette while I was at home, so I made bruschetta Wednesday night, and it was delicious. Not to mention I felt pretty fancy. I would have done an entire post, but I didn’t think about it until I’d eaten about half of it, and all of my pictures came out looking kind of sad. I used this recipe as a guide, but used cherry tomatoes, skipped the fresh garlic and fresh mozzarella, and didn’t really measure anything. But still, SO GOOD, if you are ever gifted a baguette and you aren’t sure what to do with it, make bruschetta.

So since I’ve been to the gym everyday for about 3 weeks and have been running, I’ve convinced my parents that I’m an athlete. When I told my dad that my ankles had been hurting when I ran, he concluded that I needed real running shoes. We went while I was home, and I got these Brooks Adrenaline GTS 14‘s, and I’m mildly obsessed with them. They have excellent arch support, which was the issue with my old shoes, and they also feel like clouds and move with my feet. So, in one of the greatest plot twists of all time, it’s official: Kristen Moss is a runner- and she #lovesit.

Friday’s Five

Hey Cats!

Happy Friday! I’m at home for the first time in a month, and it’s so nice! It’s always refreshing to just be with my family and relax, shop with my mom, and sleep in my big bed.

It was a pretty uneventful week, but it was still great! Here’s what I loved this week:

1.

bachelorette

The Bachelorette finale was on Monday, and Andi picked Josh- just as I suspected. My roommates and I have loved watching and providing snide commentary this season, much of it directed at Josh. Or Cody. I could tell from early on that Andi would pick Josh, and I don’t blame her- now she can stay in Atlanta, doesn’t have to take the bar exam for another state, and can probably get her DA job back- if anyone still wants a reality star defending the state of Georgia in a court of law. Don’t get me wrong- I loved Andi and the fact that she was a well-educated professional, but I think it’s going to be hard for her to go back to that life.

2. I got some new pajamas this week and I was almost late to work because I didn’t want to change out of them- twice. Oops! I got these super-soft, light pants and breezy tank from Target, and they’re perfect! I was worried about getting hot in the pants, but they’re really thin, so it’s cozy but not too warm.

3.

brussels sprout chips

I made these brussels sprouts chips recently, and they were amazing. Brussels sprouts are my new favorite vegetable, but I had an unfortunate incident with my latest bag, so I’m done for a while.

4.

Hilary-Duff-Chasing-The-Sun-2-600x337

It finally happened. Hilary Duff has new music, and I’m dying. She was my favorite singer when I was in junior high, and I’m still mildly obsessed with her.I occasionally listen to my old CD’s on long drives (#noshame), and she definitely deserves some credit for my high self-esteem. Thanks, Hillz.

5. My birthday is Sunday and I can’t wait! I know I keep talking about it, but I’m just so excited- mostly because of cake and my birthday dress. More on that later!

Friday’s Five

Hey Cats!

Yay for Friday! This week feels like it’s been so long- even though I had an extra-long weekend. This week had some ups and downs, but it turned out okay in the end! Here’s my five things for this week:

1. I’m thankful for a good report from my cardiologist.  As I mentioned earlier this week, I had my annual checkup with my cardiologist Monday. It went really well, and she told me that I was the “poster child” for my surgery. This is such a blessing and always great to hear!

2. This “Which Backstreet Boy Should You Actually Marry?” Quiz. Buzzfeed has done it again. You didn’t think I could go to a Backstreet Boys concert and just mention it once, did you? If so, you obviously don’t know me very well. Anyways, this incredibly accurate future-predictor confirmed what I’ve known all along- AJ McLean is my boy band soulmate. Duh.

3. Receiving my first brand sample ever! I came home to these fabulous Fibi & Clo sandals after a bad day at work, and they turned my frown upside down! Stay tuned for a feature post next week!

4. Birthday parties with friends. Two of the guys in my Bible study have birthdays this week, so Wednesday night we had a little ice cream and cake party for them. I was in charge of bowls and spoons, but I picked up party hats just to add a festive touch, resulting in this very flattering photo of me and my friend Sydnee. It was a great time!

5. This quote that describes me incredibly well. Obviously, I like to hang out with my friends, but sometimes I just like to be by myself! I can always find a craft (or a chore) to entertain myself, and sometimes being with large groups is exhausting and boring.

I hope everyone has an excellent weekend!

So there you have it- another week! I hope everyone has a great weekend!

Outfit of the Day- High Waist, High Style

Hey Cats!

As I mentioned, I turned 21 on Saturday! I already shared my outfit from my first celebration with my family, and now I’ll show you what I wore for round two! I went to dinner with my two besties from my hometown, and it was so fun!

photo (34)

I am absolutely obsessed with these high-waisted shorts from Tickled Pink Boutique, my newest favorite little shop in Tyler. They have the cutest ….well, everything, and it’s very reasonable. Anyways, I found these chevron print high-waisted shorts a few weeks ago and fell in love! I knew they had to be added to the family. These are my first pair of high-waisted shorts. I’m a little late with this trend because I’ve never found a pair that looked good on me. I’m looking forward to many different casual and dressy options for these shorts!

image (38)

I paired them with a tucked-in black, flowy tank from Loft, Target wedges, a vintage belt (it was my grandma’s- I’ve had it for literally 8 years and this is the first time I’ve successfully incorporated it into an outfit and I’m beyond thrilled), my Michael Kors watch I got for my birthday, a Lily and Laura bracelet, and Kendra Scott Morgan studs.

Unfortunately this picture is a little blurry,  but I had a great time celebrating with these lovely ladies!

What’s your favorite way to wear high-waisted shorts?

Outfit of the Day- Sassy Pants

Hey Cats!

August 3rd was my 21st birthday! It was a great weekend, and I got a couple of outfit posts out of the deal, too! One night I went to dinner with my family at my favorite Mexican food restaurant in Tyler.

photo (31)

I didn’t realize that I wasn’t looking at the camera until it was too late, so I’m stuck with this awkward photo. I wanted to wear something cute and comfortable, and I’ve been saving these shorts for my birthday! I saw these a while back and loved them, but it was back before I started working, so they weren’t really high on my purchase list. But, one weekend after payday, I was at Dillard’s and we met again–this time they were on sale. I immediately added them to my collection. I love these because of the bright colors and mixture of patterns- so fierce! They are no longer available, but this chevron print is a cute option! I paired it with my white flowy top from Loft (similar) and my new wedges from Target. I added earrings from Northgate Vintage, a Lily and Laura bracelet, and my kate spade bangle.

This picture is a better angle, and it’s with my sister! Check out the details of her outfit here, and stay tuned for the rest of my birthday outfits!
