Hey Cats!

Happy Wednesday! I apologize for the lack of post on Monday-This was just too long of a post to start at 9pm the night before! So I decided to postpone it for a couple of days, hopefully you understand. So let’s just jump in: here’s the details on my latest Instagram posts! And if you’re not following along, you can do that here!

I found the perfect substitution for the Naked palette! The Gilded Gold palette by Ulta is my new favorite thing! It’s definitely comparable in colors and quality, but for about half the price. I also purchased my go-to mascara, Colossal Cat Eye by Mabelline, and got a free gift that includes everything else that’s pictured! It was a great day for makeup!

IMG_1450

One of the few work outfits I’ve featured lately! This Chambray Shirt Dress from Old Navy is one of my new favorites! It’s perfect for work or church, and you can wear it with heels or flats. It’s like the full body version of a chambray shirt, which I wear like every week, so obviously this is on repeat. I paired it with leopard smoking slippers, my Kendra Scott Alex earrings in chalcedony, and my Barrington bag!

IMG_1462

These Vince Camuto heels have popped up quite a few times on the blog lately! They’re my new go-to nude heel for summer. They pair well with sundresses, rompers, and white jeans!

IMG_1495 (2)

Still can’t wait to take these to the beach in a week and a half! My Marley Lilly hat proved to be an excellent choice for a Derby party, and I’m excited to wear it at the beach as well! Paired with my coverup from Forever 21, which I couldn’t find online but found similar options here, here, and here.

IMG_0514

This gallery wall in my bedroom is the pride and joy of my home decor. My prints were a gift, but I believe they came from Etsy! I like the prints from Luxe Art Prints, ItsLikeGoldDust, and Wall And Wonder. The arrow is from Hobby Lobby, as is the “K”! Perhaps my favorite part of this wall is the rhino. I got it at Target, but like literally everything else, I can’t find it. BUT! I found one that I also love in gold at Anthropologie! They also have a colorful collection of exotic animal busts, if your decor is a bit more eclectic.

IMG_1533

This white top is a summer staple! I love this off the shoulder option, this similar option, and this short-sleeved option. I paired it with my Gap Girlfriend jeans and trusty Target sandals for a casual Friday work look.

IMG_1655

A great mail day! This nameplate necklace from Marley Lilly is great for layering, and a Southern Living is always great for reading!

IMG_1754

Another great mail day! This druzy cuff from Kinsley Armelle is a perfect addition to my wrist. Also, I am obsessed with this brand! They’re based right outside of Houston, and have adorable pieces that are unique and affordable, which I’m all about. Check them out!

IMG_1781

You may have seen on Insta that I rediscovered my old Converse when I went to my parent’s house this weekend! I have a pair of hot pink high tops and a pair of black low-tops that I’ve had since middle school. I rescued them because they’re on trend again! Yay for shopping your closet!

Instagram Round-Up

Hey Cats!

I’m sitting here watching the Bachelorette finale and eating ice cream, because it was definitely a Monday. All around my office, actually. We all left a few minutes early because it was just that bad. I cried at my desk, not a joke. But I went home early, went to the gym, and then watched hours of reality tv and ate ice cream, and now I feel a lot better about my life.

Today, I’m sharing a few of my favorite photos from the blogstagram! I try to at least tag where everything is from, but sometimes I can’t find the official Instagram account/I’m running late to work and don’t even have time to be posting to Instagram in the first place, so this is a great way to share the details with y’all! Here are my latest snapshots!

coffee-table-instagram

This is a shot of my coffee table that is the pride and joy of my apartment. Seriously. I knew I wanted a hot pink coffee table, and I decorated the rest of my living room around it. I keep this chic Sarah Hansen Annapolis Queen Bee tray on it, and my Kate Spade planner. It’s from last year, but I’m loving this year’s options!

Loft-top-instagram

I LAHVE the geometric print on this top from Loft. It’s bold without being overwhelming, and I love the teal color! Also, this top is super comfy, it’s t-shirt material on the body, and a flowy, gauzy material for the sleeves. I paired it with my BaubleBar monogram necklace and my gold triangle studs. I couldn’t find them online, but these are super similar!

leopard-outfit-instagram

This is one of my go-to work outfits. I actually wore it yesterday, but with different shoes (still leopard, obviously). I paired my trusty JCrew Factory chambray with my black jeans from Old Navy, and these leopard wedges that I got at Target a few years ago! Once again, I couldn’t find them online but I love these!

swim-instagram

I bought this monogrammed bandeau swim top from Marley Lilly at the beginning of the summer, and I’m obsessed with it. I love this font, and the bright green! I’ve paired it with both bright coral and black bottoms, and it’s adorable! However, I will say I ordered a medium and it’s a little big, and it doesn’t come with pads, which is obviously necessary for a white top. But there are spots to add them yourself, so I just stole them from one of my old tops and it’s perfect!

paris-shirt-instagram

This flouncy little top with Eiffel towers all over from Francesca’s is another work go-to. This top doesn’t have little Parisian icons on it, but it’s a similar shape and color! I layered my BaubleBar monogrammed necklace with this BURDLife pendant for a fancy look.

green-pants-instagram

Green pants can make any day a little brighter! I bought this spring green pair at JCPenney, and they’re some of my favorites! Also, these brown simple sandals from Target are so great that I have to limit myself on how often I wear them.

polka-dot-pants-instagram

These polka-dot Pixie Pants from Old Navy are what I wear when I want to feel really put-together. I added a pop of color with this orange button-down (similar) and tied it together with my Kate Spade leopard bag.

DIY-Collage Frame Update

Hey Cats!

About .03 seconds after I signed my lease for my big-girl apartment, I started to think about how I was going to decorate each room. Mostly, I was considering how I would re-use what I already had, partly because I liked it all, but mostly because I didn’t have enough money to completely re-furnish an entire apartment. I was able to use most of my furniture as it was and then (have my dad) re-paint the rest of it, so all I had to buy was a couch! I also had a lot of art to hang on my walls that I had collected over the years, and it all fit pretty well into my color scheme. However, I had this collage frame that I bought for my dorm that I had glued buttons onto to “customize” it when I was in my hot glue phase (everyone has one). As a matter of fact, that was one of my first blog posts on Sweet Cats! (please read it, I love it). As wonderful as that was for my college room, I had definitely outgrown the buttons. So I peeled them off and spray painted it! Which, by the way, was not an easy task. Getting the buttons off, I mean. I had to use a butter knife, a flathead screw driver, and finally my dad’s pocket knife. Crafting can be dangerous.

I would make this a tutorial, but I presume you all know how to spray paint, so I’ll just show you how it turned out!

IMG_0547

1. Sorry for the glare and 2. If you’re my friend and pictured in this collection of best moments from senior year, I hope it’s okay I posted you without consent. Just a few coats of gold spray paint and this frame was taken from girlish to glamorous! Also, I need to address the giant blemish near the top. One button didn’t really want to come off, and so it left a tiny hole. It’s just the angle in this photo that makes it so obvious, but when you look at it in real life it’s not as visible! I’m so glad I got to re-use this frame, because it has so many spaces for photos of my friends, which is something I love to have in my house. I also think it’s cool that I’ve been able to use it throughout college and now after! This just goes to show that if you’re on a tight decorating budget, tweaking the things you already have can make a big difference!

Friday’s Five

Hey Cats!

Happy Friday! I hope all of you are staying warm! I personally am not, because it’s always freezing but never actually snowing here, so the roads are “safe” and we have to go to school. Well, we’re supposed to anyways. I may or may not have opted to conduct an independent Marketing 409 test review from the comfort of my own home yesterday. It’s fine.

Anyways, here’s what I’m loving this week:

1. Lipstick Tricks from Cupcakes & Cashmere

lipstick8

For the past year or so, I have been sporadically incorporating lipstick into my makeup routine. I’m definitely not the type of girl to wear a bright red lip every day, but occasionally I like to play around with some color. However, makeup techniques are something I’ve never really mastered. But I’ve always wondered how other girls get their lipstick to stay on all day and just generally look great, because sometimes I feel like I look like a five-year old who found her mom’s makeup bag. I stumbled upon these great lipstick tricks from Emily of Cupcakes and Cashmere, and I decided to try my hand at them. It’s a bit of a process, but it definitely made my lipstick look 10x better. I’ll be keeping this in mind the next time I feel like getting all dressed up!

2. Home Decor

adore magazine anna caldwell

As I’ve mentioned, home decor is one of my latest obsessions. I’m constantly finding things that catch my eye on Pinterest, and they all seem to have the same theme: clean white or neutral walls and furniture with gold and colorful accents. This particular photo, originally from The Pink Pagoda is a great combination of modern and traditional elements. I love the bold patterns on the rug, pillows, and lamp, and the combination of bright blue and hot pink is so happy and girly. But I think my favorite element of this set-up is the Oriental pottery. (I don’t know the proper term for it- I tried to find it on the Google, but found contradictory results) My mom has a few pieces of this, and I’ve always really loved it. I think it adds a vibrant yet timeless touch to any room, but I think it’s showcased especially well in this room. I’m already planning on adding some of this to my design once I have an apartment of my own!

3. The Whisking Kitchen

the-whisking-kitchen

I love discovering new blogs to read, and I especially love discovering new recipes, so when I found The Whisking Kitchen I was beside myself. I stumbled upon this piece of the internet through Elizabeth the author’s Instagram. I was scrolling through my “Discover” page and found a photo of a delightful-looking omelette and fresh fruit breakfast in bed, and was instantly captured. She just recently launched her blog, and I’m so excited to try some of the recipes! First on my list? This edamame salad, this Havarti-cheddar-bacon-rosemary grilled cheese (DEAD), and these blueberry muffins. Hop over to Elizabeth’s blog and find a few recipes you love, and then meet me back here for WorkIt Wednesday so we don’t all get fat.

4. Kate Spade for Kids

ks-for-kids

I know I don’t have children, and considering the fact that I’m supposed to be in class as I’m writing this, it’s going to be quite a while before that happens. But, Kate Spade has released a line of childrenswear and it’s beyond adorable. Lots of pink, glitter, and floral prints, all of which are absolutely perfect for a haute tot. I want to wear it myself, and to be honest, my sister and I have already talked about how we’re going to try.

5. A Dose of Sass

north-west-sassy-1

If there’s one thing I love, it’s a good sassy face, and through her recent appearances at fashion shows, my girl North West is proving to be quite the little sass queen. I look for great things from this one.

That’s all for meow! Have a wonderful weekend and stay warm!

Trends I’m Loving- Agate Anything

Hey Cats!

I have been noticing agate popping up in jewelry and home decor a lot lately. You might be wondering what agate is, as was I. According to Wikipedia (credible source, I know) agate is a “microcrystalline variety of silica, formed by siliceous deposits in volcanoes”. Basically, it’s a very pretty rock found in volcanoes that, when sliced, has bands of beautiful colors. I think it’s a good thing I took Horticulture instead of Geology. Anyways, it’s a gorgeous natural material that brings a lot of interest and unique flair to accessories for both your ensembles and your living space. Here are a few of my favorite agate items:

agate bangle

This agate bangle from Ellie’s Sparkles is a great way to wear the trend. I love the white and gray agate, it reminds me of sea shells- perfect for summer! This would be a great piece to anchor your stacked wrist.

agate necklace

I also love this Sliced Hot Pink Agate necklace from Etsy. It’s a simple pendant necklace, but the pop of hot pink would instantly spruce up any neutral outfit.

agate coasters

I’m dying to have these Agate Coasters from Kate Spade Saturday for my apartment. How cute would these be on a black or gold coffee table? (Not that I have either one of those…ours is powder blue, but we’re talking about the ideal decor situation.) This is a great, small way to incorporate the agate trend into your home.

agate bookends

These agate bookends from West Elm would add the perfect touch of interesting to your bookshelf. I personally like to have some odds and ends on my bookshelf, I feel like it makes it decorative in addition to functional. I love the creamy blue and white colors of these bookends- it’s a more earthy-looking take on the trend.

Also, fun fact, I just read the book in the middle of the picture, The Spirit Catches You and You Fall Down by Anne Fadiman for my Health Communication class. Because you wanted to know. It was actually quite emotional, and presented the unique challenges that doctors and people of different cultures face in the American health care system. If you ever have some time on your hands, you should read it- it really challenged my perspectives on some things! But I digress.

How would you like to incorporate the agate trend into your wardrobe or home? Let me know in the comments!

Today, I’m linking up with Zelle from A Southern Style, Kristina from Medicine & Manicures, Katie from Champagne & Suitcases, and Amanda from As the Wine Cork Turns for #TrendingTuesday- head over and see what’s trendy this Tuesday!

DIY- Cute As A Button Frame

Hey Cats!
As you may or may not know, I will be going off to college in the fall (yay!), so I have been collecting things to decorate my dorm room and make it feel more like home. I picked up a long collage frame on one of my many trips to Target, but I was worried that it would be too much blue, since I already have lots of blue things (comforter, pillows, lamp, trash can, hangers…you get the picture). My mom suggested that I paint a design on it to add some color, but I didn’t really feel like painting, since all I can do is flowers and hearts. So, I decided to glue buttons onto it! It took maybe 30 minutes, and it was super easy! Except for when I burned myself. Anyways, here’s what you do!
You will need:
-An inexpensive collage frame (mine was $12.99 from Target), or you could do a mirror or a regular-sized frame.

-Assorted buttons. I bought Grandma’s Grab Bag from Hobby Lobby last year, and I’m still using it! You could also use rhinestones in place of buttons. (I used 2 in random spots)

– A hot glue gun

Here’s what you do!
1) Decide where you would like the buttons on the frame. I placed mine and then moved them around to make sure I liked where they were. Do this first, because once they’ve been glued down, they won’t be easy to get off!
2) Glue them on!
And you’re done! A tip is to wait until the glue has cooled to clean off the little strings, because if it is still hot, it will just stretch out even more. I waited until I had them all glued on and then cleaned it off.
Here’s how it turned out!

Since this was so easy a child could have done it, I guess it was more to show you what I made than to tell you how to do it yourself…but I wanted to share! I hope you try this, it’s a great way to make anything a little more personal and unique! And also, I have an idea of what my next DIY is, and it’s great! I’m so excited! Until next time!
