Monday’s Musings

Hey Cats!

Happy Monday! It is finally starting to feel like fall in Houston, but only because it’s been raining. It was nearly 80 degrees last week, and my sweaters are literally crying in my closet because they want to be set free. It’s to the point where I’m about to wear them anyways. I mean, it’s cold in my office so that counts, right? I think so. Otherwise about 45% of my wardrobe will sit unworn, and I just can’t have that. I digress.

I love to turn everyday objects into lessons about life. For me, it makes things easier to understand if I can compare them to something tangible. I came across this adorable little analogy, and I loved it!

pineapple-print

How cute is this? And it’s so true. It’s important to be confident and stand up for what you believe in, but also important to still be sweet to everyone you meet. It also gives a great answer to the question, “If you were a fruit, what would you be?” I think I may add this to my collage wall, when I get around to that. Also pineapples are very trendy right now, so we should all aspire to be like them.

Don’t forget to be a pineapple this week!

Monday’s Musings

Hey Cats!

Happy Monday! And it’s extra happy for those of us who have today off! I definitely need this extra day to get my ducks in a row before I go back to school! I realized last night that I don’t have any pens or notebooks and folders for my classes. Oops. I also have a few other errands to run, and other chores I’ve been putting off all week. Yay for the last minute!

Last night I met up with some of my friends for coffee, and we had a great time! They are always so encouraging, and I’m so thankful to have them in my life. We don’t get together as often as we would like, but I always really look forward to hearing about and celebrating each other’s accomplishments and goals. Since this is our last semester, we talked a lot about jobs, future plans, and all of the upcoming changes in our lives. We discussed that it can be a little scary, but it’s also a really, really exciting time, and that made me think of this quote:

be-brave-quote

It can be scary to not know what’s ahead, but as my friends and I discussed, we don’t have anything to be afraid of. This is a very exciting time in our lives, and it’s a good time to do things we’ve never had the opportunity to do before, or won’t always have the opportunity to do, like go move to another state or travel around. Being brave with your life can mean lots of different things. It can mean taking a job in a new town, or taking a temporary internship in an industry you’re dying to work at. It can mean jumping at every chance for a new adventure, or it can mean taking a step back to re-evaluate your priorities. It can mean putting yourself out there to make new friends, but it can also mean recognizing that true friendship is a rare find. For me, being brave with my life means trusting that God will fulfill His promises to me, even if that happens in a unique way. It also means being confident in my abilities at work, school, and even here on my blog. Being brave is investing time and effort into new friendships at the tail end of my college career. It also means not settling even when I’m not sure when another opportunity will come along. Whatever being brave with your life means to you, I encourage you this week (and this year and forever) to do that, and remember that you don’t have anything to be afraid of!

Monday’s Musings

Hey Cats!

Another week closer to summer! Actually, that’s not really too exciting for me, as I have yet to figure out what I’m doing this summer- eek! Hopefully I can figure that out in the next couple of weeks.

Today’s quote actually goes along quite well with that anxiety of not knowing what to do…

DVF quote

I have been in a bit of a tizzy lately because I feel like everyone has plans for graduation except for me. People are either getting married, going to medical school, or know exactly what job they want to have, and I feel like I’m way behind because I have none of those things. However, this quote is a great reminder that there are many people who don’t know what they want to do, and it’s okay. I mean, Diane Von Furstenberg said it, and she turned out just fine! This week, I’m going to try and focus on the type of woman I want to be- kind, caring, intelligent, and successful (to name just a few)- rather than what job I’ll get after I graduate. That will all fall into place!

Monday Musings

Hey Cats!

It’s been forever since I’ve posted- whoops! I’ve had tests during the week, retreats on the weekends, and Spring Break, which didn’t prove as productive for the blog as I had hoped. But I’m back, with some new ideas and inspiration! The first new idea is today’s feature, “Monday Musings”. I’ve had this idea for a while, but I haven’t really gotten around to it until now. My goal for Monday Musings is to post a quote with a short commentary, just to give my readers a little inspiration and encouragement, and to add some variety! Let me know what you think!

Quote1

I came across this quote on Pinterest a few weeks ago, and I love it so much. It’s applicable to many different things in my life right now: hard finance tests, boys, summer jobs, future plans, etc. I’m a big worrier, so this has reminded me to pray for peace (no matter what) in times when I’m unsure of what’s to come. This week I have a few pending opportunities with jobs and summer plans, so it’s my goal to remember that God’s plan is the best, and to pray for peace no matter my circumstances.

Wednesday Pins-Day

Hey Cats!

Happy Wednesday! For some of you, that means that the work week is half over, and for me that means I only have four days left at home, and four days to find and pack up all my stuff for school. It’s a daunting task, so that’s why I’m blogging instead of actually doing it. As you know, Pinterest is another one of my favorite ways to waste time, and I’ve come across a few gems lately that I would love to share with you!

cupcake holder pin First is this fantastic idea from imgfave. What a cute way to give someone a little treat! I once put cupcakes in a tall, clear, plastic glass covered with cling wrap, and it was handy and kind of cute, but this is much better. I’ll definitely have to remember this the next time I feel inclined to whip up an enormous batch of cupcakes.

cher and dad

Because I just love Cher Horowitz and Clueless, and I feel like this is a conversation I’ve had with my own dad.

DIY shorts

This pin led me to an article on Fashion Diva Design with oodles of ideas on how to make your own shorts like those above, and how to re-purpose old denim shorts! This reminded me that I’ve been wanting to make a pair of cutoffs for two summers now, so maybe I’ll get on that.

pink pin room

This ultra-glam bedroom inspiration from my home lookbook is to die for. I’m loving the simple white, black, and cream with hot pink and mirrored accents! I wish my bedroom was this chic.

coasters

These fabulous monogrammed paperboard coasters from Neiman Marcus. These would make the perfect gift for a newly married couple (I don’t know why I said that, I know a total of 2 of those) or for yourself.

funny

Last but certainly not least, this. School is upon us, and I’m soon to turn into a new type of beast. Joy.

What are your favorite pins from this week?
