Instagram Round-Up

Hey Cats!

I’m back! It’s been about 3 months since I’ve blogged. What? I just got so busy with work and life that Sweet Cats! was pushed past the back burner and basically off the stove altogether. It made me sad, and I’ve been dying to get back to blogging, but I just haven’t had the time. Until now, when I got sicky and had to stay home for a few days! I’m not promising regular posts right now, but maybe a few!

It has been way longer than I thought since I last did an Instagram Round-Up…the last one was in July! Yikes! So some of these may be a little (okay a lot) out of season (looking at you, monogrammed bathing suit), but whatever. Just put it on your list for the summer, it’s never too early for that! Don’t forget to follow along on the Blogstagram (@sweetcatsblog) to see my most recent posts!

I’m obsessed with this JCrew Factory skirt! It was great during the summer with my white swiss dot tank, and will be great in the fall with tights and riding boots! Here, I paired it with my JCrew Factory chambray, watch, Marley Lilly tassel bracelet (c/o), and a statement necklace (similar).  This is a great polished look for work or church!

Beautiful earrings for pierced ears. I hope you caught that reference to one of my favorite books as a child! I had been searching high and low for a tiny “K” earring for my third hole. I finally found one at Nordstrom, and it has become a permanent fixture on my earlobe. I wore my Kendra Scott Alexandra earrings in Chalcedony, and I thought it was a great pair!

Okay, okay, I know it’s February. But this is one of my favorite Instas ever. I paired my Marley Lilly monogrammed bandeau top with some bright coral swim bottoms (similar), grabbed my shades, $5 infused water from Whole Foods (this was before I had really grasped the concept of budgeting), and a pool read, and headed to the pool for one of the two times I went this summer.

Yaaaaas the Greased Lightening dress! I love this little frock so much that I gave it a name, as you do. They don’t have this print anymore, but they do have it in the blue marble print, which my sister has and I love! I also have it in pink, because it’s so comfy for work!

I’m literally obsessed with my Vera Bradley duffel. It’s like a Mary Poppins bag, you can just keep stuffing things inside and it never seems to fill up. This particular trip was for my birthday (in August lolz), and I packed my trusty denim shorts from Old Navy and my favorite little bird dress from SheInside. Also, this fluffy pink bedding makes me feel like a princess, and that’s the best feeling ever.

Holy Shift. This is my score from the Lilly After Party Sale, and I honestly didn’t get to wear it enough before fall rolled around. This dress is no longer available, but I’m loving this one! I like to go for a classic look with my Lilly, pairing it with nude heels, a string of pearls layered with my monogrammed necklace, and my scalloped monogrammed clutch, c/o Marley Lilly. So Southern I almost can’t even handle myself.

I had my eye on both of these BaubleBar pieces for quite some time. I love love LOVE BaubleBar, but it’s honestly too expensive for me to buy on a regular basis. But! They have awesome sales! Pro Tip: sign up for their emails- then you’ll get all the info. They have at least one piece for under $30 (a lot of the time it’s even $10 or $15!) each week! I got an excellent deal on these EKG studs that I wear nearly every day and this #obsessed dainty bracelet. The bracelet isn’t available anymore, but they have plenty of other dainty options!

loft skirt This is my favorite fall outfit! It’s one of those that I have to limit myself on wearing, because I would wear it every day. This blanket skirt from Loft is a fun addition to my autumn wardrobe. I paired it with a long-sleeved solid black tee, tights, and riding boots. To add some sparkle, I wore my Kendra Scott Rayne necklace in Pyrite (color bar only) and this fierce Gilded Leo Cuff by Baublebar (another Buried Bauble steal).

This was a big one! Fingers crossed that I will stay more on top of Instagram round-ups in the future.

That’s all for meow!

Instagram Round-Up

Hey Cats!

I’m sitting here watching the Bachelorette finale and eating ice cream, because it was definitely a Monday. All around my office, actually. We all left a few minutes early because it was just that bad. I cried at my desk, not a joke. But I went home early, went to the gym, and then watched hours of reality tv and ate ice cream, and now I feel a lot better about my life.

Today, I’m sharing a few of my favorite photos from the blogstagram! I try to at least tag where everything is from, but sometimes I can’t find the official Instagram account/I’m running late to work and don’t even have time to be posting to Instagram in the first place, so this is a great way to share the details with y’all! Here are my latest snapshots!

This is a shot of my coffee table that is the pride and joy of my apartment. Seriously. I knew I wanted a hot pink coffee table, and I decorated the rest of my living room around it. I keep this chic Sarah Hansen Annapolis Queen Bee tray on it, and my Kate Spade planner. It’s from last year, but I’m loving this year’s options!

I LAHVE the geometric print on this top from Loft. It’s bold without being overwhelming, and I love the teal color! Also, this top is super comfy, it’s t-shirt material on the body, and a flowy, gauzy material for the sleeves. I paired it with my BaubleBar monogram necklace and my gold triangle studs. I couldn’t find them online, but these are super similar!

This is one of my go-to work outfits. I actually wore it yesterday, but with different shoes (still leopard, obviously). I paired my trusty JCrew Factory chambray with my black jeans from Old Navy, and these leopard wedges that I got at Target a few years ago! Once again, I couldn’t find them online but I love these!

I bought this monogrammed bandeau swim top from Marley Lilly at the beginning of the summer, and I’m obsessed with it. I love this font, and the bright green! I’ve paired it with both bright coral and black bottoms, and it’s adorable! However, I will say I ordered a medium and it’s a little big, and it doesn’t come with pads, which is obviously necessary for a white top. But there are spots to add them yourself, so I just stole them from one of my old tops and it’s perfect!

This flouncy little top with Eiffel towers all over from Francesca’s is another work go-to. This top doesn’t have little Parisian icons on it, but it’s a similar shape and color! I layered my BaubleBar monogrammed necklace with this BURDLife pendant for a fancy look.

Green pants can make any day a little brighter! I bought this spring green pair at JCPenney, and they’re some of my favorites! Also, these brown simple sandals from Target are so great that I have to limit myself on how often I wear them.

These polka-dot Pixie Pants from Old Navy are what I wear when I want to feel really put-together. I added a pop of color with this orange button-down (similar) and tied it together with my Kate Spade leopard bag.

Trends I’m Loving- Embroidery

Hey Cats!

I’m coming to you live from the oven I currently live in. The air conditioner is broken in our townhome and the man that came to fix it yesterday had to order a part, so it can’t be fixed until today. Being hot when I’m trying to sleep really brings out the worst in me, so I slept downstairs on the couch- it wasn’t so bad! But I’m already dreading having to go upstairs and get ready for work in the burning inferno that is my room-pray for me.

Now that summer is in full swing, I’ve noticed colorful embroidery popping up in many of my favorite stores. To me, embroidery has always screamed “summer-boho-carefree-easy-lazy-pool day” (yes, it screams all of those words), but I feel like it’s definitely having a big moment this summer! Here are a few of my favorites:

jcrew embroidery

I love this embroidered pom-pom tank from JCrew. The bright blue pops on the maroon in such a delightful way, and it has pom-poms, so it’s an obvious winner. This would pair well with white chino shorts or denim shorts for a casual afternoon (or Aggie gameday- it’s maroon, you knew it was coming), or black cigarette pants and wedges for a night out.

loft embroidered

This embroidered Cotton Silk top from LOFT is a great, breezy top that’s a perfect casual take on the trend. This would be great paired with shorts, as shown above, or with dark skinny jeans and natural wedges for dinner!

This simple floral yoke cotton crinkle dress from eShakti is a simple, timeless piece that will wear well for many years. You could wear it as a beach cover-up, or with a cute pair of sandals for a lunch date!

How do you plan to wear embroidery this summer? Let me know!

Today, I’m linking up with Zelle from A Southern Style, Kristina from Medicine & Manicures, Katie from Champagne & Suitcases, and Amanda from As the Wine Cork Turns for #TrendingTuesday- head over and see what’s trendy this Tuesday!

Shop Smart- Tips on How to Get the Most for Your Money

Hey Cats!

As you know, the purpose of my blog is “Styling the Single-Girl Closet on the College-Girl Budget”. I often style the good deals I find in my outfit posts, but today I’d like to share some of tips and tricks on how I fill my Single-Girl Closet on my College-Girl Budget.

1. It will always go on sale- wait a while! If you find something that you love that’s full price, give it a few weeks. Unless it’s already pretty affordable, or you’re on a schedule. I always do this at Dillard’s (especially with shoes!), JCrew, and Target, and usually end up saving a lot!

2. Start with the sale racks first- If I’m shopping just “to shop” (not looking for anything specific), I’ll head to the racks with the “SALE” signs first. That way if I find something I like (which I usually do), it will be a good deal!

3. Sign up for emails from your favorite stores. I subscribe to emails from Old Navy and Loft, and they have saved me all kinds of money! Loft will notify their subscribers of every sale, especially one-day only deals! I’ve rushed to Loft multiple times because of their 24-hour dress pant sale. Old Navy will send out coupons, some to be used online, and some in stores.

4. Always ask! If something is advertised as on sale, but rings up higher than expected, ask the cashier about it! You don’t have to be rude, just say “I thought that was supposed to be 50% off?”. They’ll usually correct a mistake, or explain why it actually isn’t on sale. Also, if you aren’t sure about a coupon or special offer, ask! I recently had a coupon for Old Navy that I wasn’t sure if I could use on clearance items, so I asked the cashier and he cleared it up for me. It never hurts to ask!

5. Compare and Contrast. Sometimes, the things I love are way out of my price range, even when they go on sale. When this happens, I try and find a comparable item at a lower price. Also, shopping around before you buy is key to making sure you get the best deal!

6. If you don’t love it, don’t buy it. This seems obvious, but it’s one of the best ways to avoid wasting your money. In the words of Sandra Bullock as Leigh Ann Tuohy in the Blind Side,”If you don’t love it in the store, you won’t wear it. The store’s where you love it the most.” If you’re not sure that it looks good on, or if you’re not sure if you need it, don’t buy it! I’ve bought a few things that I’ve worn about twice, and I definitely regret it! Make sure that you only buy things you really love and will get a lot of use out of.

Just remember, it takes time to fill a Single-Girl Closet on a College-Girl Budget! These tips should make it a little easier, and hopefully a little more fun! Do you have any smart shopping tips? Let me know!

Office Chic

Hey Cats!

Happy Memorial Day! I hope everyone is enjoying their day off- I know I am! I plan on relaxing and running errands today, and I may squeeze in a trip to the pool if it’s not cloudy!

One of my favorite parts of working in an office environment is wearing business casual. I know that sounds silly, but it makes me feel put-together and professional, and it’s very different from the Nike shorts and leggings I wear to class. Thanks to my internship last summer, I already have a quite versatile office-appropriate wardrobe, but it’s always nice to expand! I went shopping Thursday, sort of looking for something new to wear to work, but mostly looking for something to do with my time. I wandered into Old Navy and found these Tuxedo Stripe Pixie Pants on clearance for $9! I tried them on and LOVED them. They’re a little trendy and edgy, but still office appropriate.

I wore these to work on Friday with my white flowy top from Loft (no longer available, but I love this one!). I decided to go with a simple, clean color scheme, and I half-tucked my top to give it a bit more of a put-together look. I added my nude Steve Madden pumps and Kendra Scott Morgan studs. I love the stripe down the leg, it adds a bit of interest to the classic black dress pant. Also, the nude pumps keep the ensemble classic, chic, and streamlined. This may be my new favorite outfit to wear to the office- it’s an updated version of business casual that’s just the right mix of professional and contemporary chic. I’m excited to see the many ways these pants will work in my wardrobe- both work and play!

Outfit of the Day- A Citrus Statement

Hey Cats!

Friday was my last day at the law firm I’ve been interning at this summer. While I’m excited to get back to school, I was actually really sad when I left. I’ve really enjoyed getting to know everyone in the office, and they’ve taught me so much! Usually on Fridays I dress more casual, but this time I wanted to wear business casual one last time, since I’ll soon revert to College Station Chic-Norts and a tee. I had on my white capris with this outfit (and it was SO cute), but as I was putting on my makeup, a terrible accident occurred. My foundation exploded, and Ivory 204 went everywhere-on the counter, on the walls, and, of course, my white pants. So I was forced to change into jeans instead. Luckily, I ended up liking this outfit just as much!

{Top-Loft, (no longer available), Jeans-Levi’s, Sandals-Target, Watch-Michael Kors, Cable bracelet-Katie’s}

The reason I wore this outfit was to feature my new statement necklace and earrings from Benevolent Jewels. I received my order on Thursday (stay tuned to see it all-so fabulous!), and I just HAD to wear something! Since I was going to work, I kept it simple everywhere else with neutral tones and clean lines.

image (40)

Isn’t this necklace gorgeous? It’s called “Lemon-Lime Statement Necklace”, but I also think it looks like upside-down pineapples. I like the mix of colored stones with rhinestones. I also love the earrings- mostly because they were a surprise! I knew some of the statement necklaces came with earrings, but I didn’t think this one did! Unfortunately, this necklace has sold out since  I purchased it, but there are many more options, including a few new pieces! In case you don’t know, Benevolent Jewels is an online jewelry boutique that donates a percentage of their profits to a different charity quarterly. Beautiful baubles and helping others? Perfect! You should definitely check it out, and if you find something you like (you will), use the promo code “KCODE20” at checkout for 20% off of your purchase!

Outfit of the Day- Sassy Pants

Hey Cats!

August 3rd was my 21st birthday! It was a great weekend, and I got a couple of outfit posts out of the deal, too! One night I went to dinner with my family at my favorite Mexican food restaurant in Tyler.

photo (31)

I didn’t realize that I wasn’t looking at the camera until it was too late, so I’m stuck with this awkward photo. I wanted to wear something cute and comfortable, and I’ve been saving these shorts for my birthday! I saw these a while back and loved them, but it was back before I started working, so they weren’t really high on my purchase list. But, one weekend after payday, I was at Dillard’s and we met again–this time they were on sale. I immediately added them to my collection. I love these because of the bright colors and mixture of patterns- so fierce! They are no longer available, but this chevron print is a cute option! I paired it with my white flowy top from Loft (similar) and my new wedges from Target. I added earrings from Northgate Vintage, a Lily and Laura bracelet, and my kate spade bangle.

This picture is a better angle, and it’s with my sister! Check out the details of her outfit here, and stay tuned for the rest of my birthday outfits!

Outfit of the Day-Gray and Pink

Hey Cats!

image (34)

photo (25)

This morning I was having a mild wardrobe crisis while getting ready for work. It was one of those days where you just don’t feel like wearing any of the clothes appropriate for the occasion (and I KNOW everyone has those days). I tried dresses, pants, and multiple shirt and cardigan combos, but they ended up thrown on my bed in frustration (they’re actually still there as I type, in mountains on each side of me.). I felt like I’d recently worn everything in my closet and wanted something different. Some of the girls in my office have worn colored jeans to work, so I decided that I could do that too! I chose my fuchsia jeans from JCPenney (no longer available in this color), and paired it with my gray shell from Loft (similar) in order to make the outfit look slightly more professional and less trendy. I’m always afraid that I’ll wear something that screams “summer intern”, and even though that’s what I am, I don’t want it to be obvious! I added my Kendra Scott Neely necklace to give the top a little interest. I finished the look off with my trusty black sandals from Target! I recently bought these, and I honestly don’t know how I’ve gotten this far without black sandals-they go with literally everything! I got many compliments on this outfit, which is great since I threw it together 5 minutes before I left for work!

Building a Work Wardrobe

Hey Cats!

As you may know, I recently got a summer job at a law firm, doing everything from cleaning out storage closets to sitting in on meetings with clients. I’m learning new things every day, and while some days are more interesting than others, I absolutely love it! The office dress code is business casual, so I got really excited because when I wear “real people clothes” I feel like I really have my life together. However, aside from my one pair of black dress pants and all the cardigans I accumulated during my “dress like someone’s mom” phase in high school (not really as tragic as it sounds), I had nothing to wear to work. I wore my sister’s clothes for a few days, but then I realized that wasn’t going to work all summer. But I didn’t want to buy a closet full of work clothes when my job was only going to last for a little over a month. So I went out in search of a few pieces that would mix and match to give me an array of options. My first and only stop was Loft. I received an email saying that everything in the store was 50% off, so I practically drug my mother to the mall after dinner one night. And I hit the jackpot! For starters, I got the Marisa cropped pant in black, white, and khaki.

black pants

white pants

khaki pants

I like these because they mix and match with everything! I also like the cropped length for summer- not as hot as long pants!

Next, I added tops. I got these shells from Loft as well, but I couldn’t find them on the website anymore (but check out this similar option. I love the coral!). I chose purple and gray. I wear the purple top with the black or white pants, and the gray with the white pants. Also, please excuse my closet-it’s such a mess!

photo (23)

I also bought this white sheer long-sleeved top.

photo (24)

First of all, it desperately needs to be ironed. But anyways, I like to wear this with my long black pants and heels on days when I want to really look like a pro. Also, I love this because I can wear it in life outside of work! It pairs well with dark skinnies (or colored jeans) and wedges for a great dinner look.

image (32)

I absolutely adore this paisley sweater. It’s very light, so it’s not too hot! I love the stripes on the sleeves, too! I wear this with my khaki pants or jeans on Friday. I wore it in real life with my JCrew khaki chino shorts at the beach-I’m all about double-duty!

image (33)

I also bought this flowy black top. It looked fabulous on, and was only $14! I wear it with my white and khaki pants and my turquoise Kendra Scott Elle earrings for a pop of color! Once again, I can pair this top with shorts or jeans for a cute after work look as well!

Everything I purchased was from Loft, and it was also WAY on sale! If you sign up for their emails, you will be notified whenever they have a sale, which is great because most of their really big sales last for just one day!

In addition, I mix in the cardigans from the above-stated mom phase, JCrew solid tees, and other dressy tops from my closet or my sister’s. I typically wear sandals or black flats or occasionally heels. It’s not a huge wardrobe, but it’s enough to get me started! My take-away must haves for a beginning work wardrobe are:

-Comfortable dress pants in black, white, and khaki

-Shells that match each pair of pants (2 or 3)

-One white sheer long-sleeve

-One black shell or tank

-One fun patterned top that matches each pair of pants

-Cardigans galore.

What are your workplace wardrobe staples?

Outfit of the Day-Bachelorette Party!

Hey Cats!

My cousin’s bachelorette party was this past weekend, and it was a blast! We stayed in a precious hotel in downtown Dallas and had dinner and a lingerie shower. It was fun, but not too crazy, which was perfect! I was really excited to wear “going-out clothes”, since I don’t get to go out when I’m home.

photo (22)

This navy skirt is one of my favorites! It’s BCBGeneration, and it’s the perfect going-out skirt! I paired it with this top from Loft, and my favorite wedges (they’re old and I couldn’t find them online, but I like these from Steve Madden, these (also Steve), and these from Jessica Simpson). I decided to go with a bold necklace and smaller earrings. I wore the Neely necklace from Kendra Scott with the Morgan studs, also from Kendra. I finished it off with a Lily and Laura bracelet, and my kate spade idiom bangle.
