Queen Bee

Hey Cats!

Sorry for the lack of posts this week!  I would say that it’s because of my online class, but it’s actually because I stayed out late on Monday and I’ve been super tired…I’m such a grandma. But I plan to get back on track!

One of my favorite parts of my townhome is my bathroom-it’s actually the reason I chose my room! That sounds really weird, but I just love it. There’s copious amounts of counterspace, a large linen closet for all of my unnecessary toiletries I can’t live without, and there’s a walk-in closet. So obviously, I had to have it. It’s actually been my favorite room to decorate, (I’m constantly on the hunt for the perfect painting for inside my closet) and today I’m going to share my jewelry tray that I keep on my counter.

So it’s maybe not the most organized system (and this is after I cleaned it up a bit), but I love having my everyday jewelry on display.(Also, this isn’t even close to all of my jewelry- I store the rest in a dresser drawer, but it’s kind of a mess.)  I’m obsessed with this Sarah Hansen Annapolis Queen Bee tray. It just really speaks to me on a personal level, since I like to think I’m the Queen Bee. Before I got the tray, I had everything on a glitter plate I crafted, but it was too small. I love the size of this tray, and that it keeps everything in its place while also making a statement itself.

The jewelry tree was my grandmother’s, which makes it extra special. I’ve had it for years, but never quite used it to its full potential until this year! I like the different levels, it makes storing both necklaces and bracelets easy. You could probably find one similar to mine at an antique store, or there’s this interesting piece from Anthropologie, and this one from ModCloth.

Keeping with the royalty theme, I have a little ceramic crown that I use as a catchall for my rings, studs, hairties, and bobby pins. I like it because it allows me to keep even more things out on my counter without looking like too much of a mess. I love this Giraffe Dish and this (mildly creepy but still cute) “Lend Me a Hand” ring holder.

I also keep my Aggie ring box here, so I can tuck my little piece of gold away safely each night, and my many lipsticks, perfumes, and current nail color. I love it when storage can double as decoration, and that’s exactly what this tray does! It’s a great way to keep my everyday baubles at my fingers while adding some character to my bathroom.

Also, have you entered the giveaway for a pair of earrings from The Beautiful Fools? DO IT, and you can put them on your jewelry tray!

That’s all for meow!

Floral Frocks with ModCloth

Hey Cats!

One of my favorite parts of spring is getting to wear fun dresses. After a few months of darker, heavier fabrics, wearing a spring dress in a bright pattern is a very freeing experience. I typically get a new dress for Easter each year, but this year I bought one for Ring Day instead. I had every intention of wearing it for Easter as well, but the more I looked at it, the more I decided it wasn’t “Easter-y” enough, so I wore one of my other favorite dresses.

If you’re looking for a new favorite dress this spring, you should definitely check out ModCloth! I was recently contacted by ModCloth to participate in their “Uniquely You” challenge for fashion bloggers. My job was to create an ensemble based around their gorgeous Bouquet of the Season dress, and I had so much fun!

I started (obviously) with the Bouquet of the Season Dress. First of all, I love the print and color scheme of this dress. That, coupled with the sweetheart strapless neckline makes it a beautiful, feminine choice. When I saw this dress, I knew I had to take the ensemble in a classic, timeless direction.

Next, I added the Charter School Cardigan in Ivory. I really love how a cardigan looks over a strapless sundress, and it makes the outfit appropriate for many different occasions!

wedges

For footwear, I chose these lovely Every Day of the Chic wedges. They’re a bit more modern than the regular nude pump, but still a classic style.

I decided to keep the jewelry simple and sweet. The Long-Awaited Earrings caught my eye because they’re not too fussy, but still dramatic enough to make a statement. I added the Knot a Moment Too Soon bangle to give the ensemble a dainty touch.

Finally, I chose the Garden Grandeur Clutch. I love the pop of turquoise this adds to the outfit, and how it gives this classic look a modern twist.

If you’re looking for a new dress this spring, head over to ModCloth! They have a great variety of floral frocks that will make you want to wear a dress almost every day of the week,

Splurge vs. Steal- Kitty-Cat Flats

Hey Cats!

If you know me, or if you’ve taken context clues from my blog title, you know that I LOVE cats. Love ’em. Not only are they precious little creatures, but they do whatever they want, just like me!

I have been dying for a pair of kitty-cat flats for some time now, but the problem is finding a pair that doesn’t make me look like a child or a crazy cat lady- which I am, but I’d like to keep that under wraps for a bit longer. When I found out that Nordstrom was debuting Charlotte Olympia’s Purrrfect Collection, I was ecstatic. I mean, how chic are these shoes? They’re an excellent touch of whimsy, yet still classic. I love the gold heel, and the little ears, of course.

However, when I saw the price tag, I knew they would never have a place in my single-girl closet, due to my college-girl budget. So I decided to hunt for an alternative! I immediately thought of ModCloth, the site for all things whimsical and inexpensive. I came across these Cat Me if You Can flats, and although they’re not exactly the same style, they’re still super cute! I love the burgundy color (which is a surprisingly easy color to mix in your wardrobe) and the little kitten just hanging out on the toes. The best part? They’re only $44.99, compared to $595 for the Charlotte Olympia pair!

As sad as it is when something I love is out of my price range, I really enjoy trying to find an alternative- it’s like a scavenger hunt! Just remember, you don’t always have to splurge, there’s usually something similar out there that you’ll love just as much!
