Friday’s Few

Hey Cats!

Happy Friday! And Happy April Fool’s Day I guess. Personally, I do not like April Fool’s day, because I will believe literally anything people tell me. So you can imagine the turmoil I’m in when people tell me all sorts of things and I believe them and then they say, “April Fools!”. Like stop, you’re just taking advantage of me. I digress.

This has been a crazy week, and it’s gone by pretty fast! Not that I’m complaining. Here’s what I’m loving this week:

1. Chicken with Roasted Tomatoes and Red Onions-SkinnyTaste

tomato-onion chicken

I made this Chicken with Roasted Tomatoes and Red Onions from SkinnyTaste on Wednesday (the only night I cooked this week…insert embarrassed monkey emoji) and it was so yummy! I pinned it but I wasn’t really dying to make it, until my sister said she had made it and loved it, so of course I had to try! As you may or may not know, roasted vegetables are kind of my jam. They just have such a delicious flavor and texture and they are so easy. Anyways, I grilled the chicks on my George Foreman and piled it high with the roasted tomatoes and onions and fresh basil, and it was divine. I could have eaten another piece. If you’re looking for an easy and pretty healthy dinner, give this a try!

2. Target With Liza

My bestie Robyn shared this gem with me and I’m still dying. She worked at Target in College Station, and way too often, I would wander around Target on Friday nights alone, and I would run into her all. the. time. And I would always be buying things I didn’t need, such as a Lilly for Target (remember that madess?) romper from the little girl’s section. This still happens to me, but unfortunately I don’t have any friends at Target. It’s just me being pathetic. #FunFriday.

3. A Good Start

jessica-alba

I stumbled upon a great article from MyDomaine, How 7 Female Leaders Spend Their First Hour at Work. It has some great advice from successful women, and I think it shows that how you start the day sets the tone for how your workday will go. I’m having a hard time choosing my favorites, but I love Lauren Conrad’s advice of checking in with coworkers, and Marissa Mayer’s advice of a three-tier priority list.

4. New Music

brett eldridge

A few weeks ago I saw Brett Eldredge at the Houston Rodeo with my friends on a whim, and it was THE BEST. The rodeo and also the concert. He wasn’t really on my list of people to see, but I had strep throat and missed Jason Aldean with my church friends and Miranda Lambert with my sister (I cried), and then I broke up with my boyfriend (surprise, I had a boyfriend during my blogging hiatus), so my friends were like, “COME TO THE RODEO WITH US WE’RE SEEING BRETT ELDREDGE” the next day, so obviously I went. I knew I liked him but now I’m obsessed. I am currently listening to the above-pictured album as we speak. If you like country music and are looking for something new, check him out!

5. IT’S THE WEEKEND

calm-down

I’m just so excited I feel like Heather Dubrow needs to tell me to calm down. On Saturday I have a Junior League shift and then I have to clean my whole apartment before it literally consumes me, but on Sunday I’m going to a Mumford & Sons concert with my bestie Ashley! Yay weekend!

I hope everyone has a great weekend- That’s all for meow!

Monday’s Musings

Hey Cats!

Another Monday is upon us! For some, that may mean another week of work, or school, or fun summer activities. Whatever Monday means to you, I hope you make the most of this week!

I just wanted to keep it short & sweet today, and wish you a happy Monday from myself & this adorable kitten. Lately, I’ve been wanting to get a cat, but my roommates and I agreed on no animals, and I don’t think I could take care of it as well as I should right now. So until I become a real adult, I’ll have to stick to pictures and my cat at home.

Wednesday Pins-Day

Hey Cats!

Happy Wednesday! I’m so excited for today, because this is the last day of finals, which means my roommates will be done with tests, and I won’t be by myself all day. It’s been nice to relax and not have any responsibilities for the past couple of days, but I’m ready to do fun summer activities with my friends! Since I’ve had all this free time, I’ve been doing plenty of pinning, and I’ve come across a few things I’d like to share with you all!

mirrored pots

First are these cute mirrored plant-holders. (Is that what they should be called? Help.) I love the modern look the mirrors give the plants, and it would work well in a variety of home decor styles. The website isn’t in English, but the photo itself is fairly self-explanatory. Just 5 square mirrors and some hot glue and you’ve got yourself a nice little craft. If I had a green thumb I would be more eager to go for this project, but I typically kill all things green within two weeks, so I might have to adapt this to work with something other than plants.

keyhole earrings

Next are these Keyhole Earrings from sonya renee. My roommate has a similar pair, and I’m mildly obsessed with them. They’re a perfect dainty touch to any outfit, and the classic shape ensures that they will be a staple in your jewelry collection for years to come. These are definitely on my purchase list for this summer!

brussel sprouts

Next is this delicious recipe for roasted brussels sprouts from Cakes Cottage. Brussels sprouts are my new favorite vegetable, and I make them multiple times a week, not a joke. I’ve sauteed them before and enjoyed them, but I think roasting is my favorite. I love how they get really crispy- SO GOOD. Instead of the garlic aioli sauce in this recipe, I typically dip them in a little Greek yogurt mixed with a splash of lime juice and a sprinkle of dill, and it’s everything. If you’re looking for a new side dish, give this one a try- you’ll love it!

george

Finally, I have this adorably hilarious meme of Prince George sassing it up on the Australian tour. I’m so sad that’s over, because between Kate’s ensembles and George’s shenanigans I was incredibly entertained.

Wednesday Pins-Day

Hey Cats!

I hope everyone has been having a great week! It’s Wednesday, so just two short days until RING DAY!! I can’t contain myself much longer. So for now, I’ll share what I’ve been pinning this week!

chairs

First are these chairs, found on indulgy.com I love the idea of a contrasting pattern in the same color scheme on the back of the chairs- it keeps it interesting without being too whimsical. I’m definitely keeping this idea in mind the next time I (okay, my mom) decide to recover a chair.

green chili casserole

Next is this green chili chicken casserole from Daydream Recipe. I made this for my roommates over the weekend, and it was SO GOOD. It was also incredibly easy, which I also appreciated. Even the leftovers are good, so that’s saying something.

mani pedi pairings

I’m loving this mani-pedi pairing cheat sheet from Lauren Conrad. I can’t ever commit to just one color on both my hands and my feet, but I don’t want it to look silly! I love these combinations, because they’re different but still complementary. My favorite is definitely the first, the pale pink and deep blue- I’ll be trying that out this summer!

cat ice

Last is this hilarious cat ice cube tray from Amazon. I mean, who wouldn’t want ice cubes shaped like cats? We have a dollar sign ice cube tray at my house, and I think the cats would be a perfect addition.

Wednesday Pins-Day

Hey Cats!

I hope everyone is having a great week! I had a test and a paper due yesterday, so I’m relieved to have those out of the way. As usual, I’ve been pinning, and I found a few things I need to share with you all- enjoy!

Also, don’t forget to follow me on Pinterest for more great ideas!

Kate Spade pillow

First are instructions to make this bow pillow as seen in the Kate Spade store from The College Prepster. Isn’t this the cutest? I think I may have to make a few to spruce up my room!

Strata Stripe Dress

Next is this V-Neck Tunic Dress from Kate Spade Saturday in one of their new summer prints, Strata Stripe. I’m absolutely obsessed with this print, and I’ve already got my eye on quite a few pieces that would be perfect for spring and summer!

parm ranch chicken

This Ranch Parmesan chicken recipe from KitchMe is just delicious. I made it for dinner last week, and it’s a new favorite for sure. The ranch dressing adds so much more flavor than dipping the chicken in an egg mixture, which I loved. You should definitely try it some time this week!

cheese

Last is this, because it’s hilarious and completely true. Cheese is a food group of its own in my opinion.

What have you been pinning lately?

Wednesday Pins-Day

Hey Cats!

I hope everyone is having a great week! I have a test and a paper due tomorrow so I definitely have my work cut out for me! Also, today is the Liberal Arts Career Fair at school, so right after I post this I’m going to go on the hunt for an internship- wish me luck!

It’s been a while since I’ve done a Wednesday Pins-Day, and I’ve found some great things recently that I’d like to share. Here you go!

brown sugar chix

1. First is this delicious recipe for brown sugar spiced baked chicken from Spoonful. I made this for dinner Saturday night, and it was delicious! However, I accidentally put half a tablespoon of cumin instead of half of a teaspoon- oops! I scooped a lot out, but it was still a little on the strong side! We had this with quinoa, sauteed mushrooms, and baked parmesan squash- a healthy, delicious little feast!

2. Next is this cute valentine idea. I love giving valentines to my friends, and I love Burt’s Bees, so this would be something I would love to give and receive!

Love Me earrings

3. Next are these sassy earrings from Nordstrom. My favorite are definitely the “Over It” set, and I’m probably going to get them soon. They’re only $12 for the whole set!

Adorable Rag Doll Kitten

4. Last is this precious ragdoll kitten. I kind of have mild kitten fever right now- it’s like baby fever, but more appropriate for this stage in my life. Isn’t it SO CUTE? Need it.

Wednesday Pins-Day

Hey Cats!

It’s already Wednesday again? I feel like I just did last week’s Wednesday post…I guess time flies when you’re not going to school every day. Speaking of, I forgot how much I love blogging every day! It’s so nice to finally have time to actually put together a well thought-out post- I feel like when I’m at school I just throw things together! Hopefully I will have more time next semester to blog more regularly- but no promises.

This week, I’ve been fairly dormant on Pinterest. It’s not that I haven’t been on, it’s just that many of the people I follow pin things that I have no interest in re-pinning, such as wedding ideas or baby stuff. Also, none of those people are getting married nor having babies (to my knowledge), and you all know how I feel about that. Annoyed. Anyways, I was able to gather a few good ideas this week that I would love to share with you!

duct tape fridge

First is this gold-striped refrigerator from Rachel Schultz. I mean, how cute is this? I’m dying to do this to a fridge one day- not the one I have now, it’s black and belongs to my landlord. And it’s just duct tape! I’m dying. I’ll definitely have to do this when I live in a flat in NYC with my bestie Kinsey. Also, check out Rachel’s blog and her multitude of mouthwatering recipes- I want to make everything.

oven fried pickles

Next is this recipe for Oven-Fried Pickle Chips from Skinnytaste. Let me tell you a little about myself. Early on in the semester, my roommate introduced me to fried pickles from Chicken Express- so delicious, but so greasy and unhealthy. Unfortunately, there is a Chicken E basically in the same parking lot of our townhome, so they were constantly taunting me. Well, I often gave in, driving through on my way home after school, or on my way out of town. Perhaps this recipe will help me get my fix without all the grease! I’m definitely looking forward to trying it soon!

nails

Next is this festive, sparkly mani from Nordstrom’s Instagram. While I’m not sure I could make this happen for myself, it would be a lovely option for holiday parties! I also love that both of the colors are glitter, and it’s not just an accent.

kristin wigg

Last but certainly not least is this photo of Kristin Wiig in Bridesmaids. One of my favorite movies, and this is one of my favorite scenes. My friends and I constantly say this to each other, and it’s hilarious. If you haven’t watched this, do it over Christmas break- you will die.

As I was writing this, my computer kind of started falling apart at the hinges- not a joke. So hopefully I can get that under control and get back to blogging soon!

Wednesday Pins-Day

Hey Cats!

Happy Wednesday! For some of you, that means that the work week is half over, and for me that means I only have four days left at home, and four days to find and pack up all my stuff for school. It’s a daunting task, so that’s why I’m blogging instead of actually doing it. As you know, Pinterest is another one of my favorite ways to waste time, and I’ve come across a few gems lately that I would love to share with you!

cupcake holder pin First is this fantastic idea from imgfave. What a cute way to give someone a little treat! I once put cupcakes in a tall, clear, plastic glass covered with cling wrap, and it was handy and kind of cute, but this is much better. I’ll definitely have to remember this the next time I feel inclined to whip up an enormous batch of cupcakes.

cher and dad

Because I just love Cher Horowitz and Clueless, and I feel like this is a conversation I’ve had with my own dad.

DIY shorts

This pin led me to an article on Fashion Diva Design with oodles of ideas on how to make your own shorts like those above, and how to re-purpose old denim shorts! This reminded me that I’ve been wanting to make a pair of cutoffs for two summers now, so maybe I’ll get on that.

pink pin room

This ultra-glam bedroom inspiration from my home lookbook is to die for. I’m loving the simple white, black, and cream with hot pink and mirrored accents! I wish my bedroom was this chic.

coasters

These fabulous monogrammed paperboard coasters from Neiman Marcus. These would make the perfect gift for a newly married couple (I don’t know why I said that, I know a total of 2 of those) or for yourself.

funny

Last but certainly not least, this. School is upon us, and I’m soon to turn into a new type of beast. Joy.

What are your favorite pins from this week?

Why I Deleted My Wedding Board on Pinterest

Hey Cats!

I would like to begin with a disclaimer- In posting this, I am not saying that this is what everyone should do. I am just sharing my story, and how I feel it is beneficial to me and my faith.

Everyone loves a wedding, at least I do. My cousin got married just a couple of weeks ago, and I had the honor of being a bridesmaid.(I’ve decided that I could totally be a professional bridesmaid. I mean, you get a new dress that’s fancier than what you’d normally wear, you get to fix your hair and makeup like you’re actually going to be around people, and help others with their hair and makeup, you get cute monogrammed gifts, you get to eat cake at least three times, and you support your friend/family member on one of the most important days of her life-right up my alley.) From my cousin’s engagement to her wedding, I’ve seen how much actually goes in to planning a wedding, and I’m really seeing it with my sister, who is getting married in February. So I can understand why people use something like Pinterest to gather ideas and keep them all in one place. However, in the past few months, I have been wondering why I, a very single, twenty-one year old girl, feel it is necessary to gather ideas for a wedding that I’m not even guaranteed to have. (I realize that I terrify some girls my age with that statement, myself included, but sometimes you have to be real, and this is one of those times.) After much prayer, consideration, and heated debate with myself, I made the decision to do away with my wedding board (dramatically titled “Someday…”) on Pinterest.

I have a few different reasons for doing this:

1. A far-off wedding should not be my main focus right now.  First of all, it’s not like I would just sit for hours pinning wedding ideas. But when I came across something “I might want to keep in mind”, I would save it. But sometimes I would get on kicks where I would pin a mass amount of wedding ideas in one sitting. However, as I have recently been learning, singleness is a special time in the life of a Christian. It is a time to grow in your faith and focus on what God has for you specifically. It’s not a time to be planning a wedding to a boy you haven’t even met yet. I  began to realize this as I read “When God Writes Your Love Story” by Eric & Leslie Ludy (which if you haven’t read, YOU NEED TO.). Right now, I’m single because God wants me to work on myself and draw me to Him, and if I’m busy picking out the groom’s cake before I even have a groom, then I can’t fully be molded into who God wants me to be.

2. It’s not about the wedding-it’s about the marriage. This is something that I think is a big problem with girls today. They want to have their perfect day, and they get so caught up in looking and being treated like a princess that they forget about the real purpose of a wedding- to make a lifetime commitment with another person to serve each other and God for the rest of your lives. If you just want to throw a big party, become a committee head in your sorority and plan a brunch for 150 people-it’s not all it’s cracked up to be. I’m not saying it’s bad to want a nice wedding- I do!- but I’m saying that I think the focus should be more on the meaning of a wedding, rather than the presentation.

3. I don’t know what I’ll want my wedding to be like by the time I actually get married. Right now, everyone is into the Mason jars and burlap, but who knows what’s going to be ‘in’ by the time you actually get engaged? More importantly, I know that who I marry will have an effect on how I want my wedding to be. Planning now is just a waste of time!

4. Sometimes it makes you sad. I’m not the type of girl to sit around and mope because I’m single (and have been forever). I’ve given that area of my life over to God, and am trusting Him with that as I live in this time of singleness (which took a very long time). But that doesn’t mean that I never wish I wasn’t single- it happens sometimes. Often, when I was particularly upset, I would get on Pinterest and end up pinning wedding stuff, which made things worse. In getting rid of my wedding board, I also got rid of the opportunity to dwell on my singleness, and to tell God that I was upset with/didn’t trust His timing.

So there you have it. If you think that this might be a good idea for you, I would definitely encourage you to pray about it and ask God if this is hindering your relationship with Him, or your ability to trust Him and His plans for you.

That’s all for meow!
