Instagram Round-Up

Hey Cats!

Happy Tuesday! It’s my first full week of work, and I’m so ready to be able to get in a routine of 9-5 every day. I’m liking my job so far, but I still feel like I have so much to learn! But I think that the more I do things, the easier they will be. However, when I get home, I basically sit on my couch and blog and watch reality TV until it’s time to go to sleep. I desperately need to find a gym, because it’s been maybe three weeks since I’ve had a good workout, and it’s driving me crazy. I tried to go to the gym in my apartment, but all it has is a treadmill and an elliptical, both of which I hate. When I run, I like to feel like I’m actually going somewhere. And I don’t run outside because I’m a wimp. So you see my dilemma. But I digress.

I mentioned my blogstagram a few posts ago, and I’ve been working to build that part of my blog, since Instagram is becoming a critical social media outlet for bloggers. I haven’t posted as often as I’ve wanted, but I think I’m getting there! Here are a few of my recent faves, with links to everything so we can be twinsies. Check it out, and be sure to follow me on Instagram!

I live for school/office supplies. Something about a cute planner makes me actually write things down, and my monogrammed travel mug makes early mornings a bit happier. Planner: Kate Spade (the print I have is not available this year, but I’m loving this one!) Pencil Pouch: ban.do, Travel Mug: Marley Lilly.

instagram-oldnavy dress

This striped dress was a perfect addition to my spring wardrobe. It’s versatile, comfortable, and affordable- three of the best things in life. Dress: Old Navy (similar), Sandals: Target (old, but LOVE these), Clutch, Marley Lilly (c/o), Earrings: Kendra Scott, Beaded bracelets: Lily and Laura, Gold bangle: Kate Spade, Necklace: Kendra Scott (old, but love this one!)
instagram-spring colors

I loved this outfit- I was actually wearing the dress in the picture above, but with some different accessories for a pop of spring colors! Scarf: Big Buddha (similar), Earrings: Kendra Scott, Necklace: BaubleBar

Instagram-sandals

My absolute favorite sandals this summer. Secret- they’re from the kid’s section in Target. Another secret- my sister has a matching pair. I actually bought them for her. Sandals: Target

instagram-snake top

I am obsessed with this top. I have to limit myself on how often I wear it to work, not a joke. And this tassel necklace is becoming a staple in my wardrobe as well. Top: Macy’s (similar), Jeans: JCrew Factory, Earrings: Kendra Scott, Necklace: similar.

instagram-bird dressI recently discovered SheInside, a site with super fun, super affordable clothes, and it’s my latest favorite way to spend all of my money. This bird dress was my first purchase, and I love it! It gets lots of compliments (and yes, a few strange looks), and it’s very flattering! Dress: SheInside, Clutch: Marley Lilly (c/o), Necklace: similar, Shoes: Jessica Simpson

Instagram-leopard

This is another purchase from SheInside. I love this shift dress, it’s so bright and unexpected! I wore it to my sorority’s end of the year banquet with black pumps, and it looked surprisingly chic! Dress: SheInside

Monday’s Musings

Hey Cats!

How was everyone’s Spring Break? I’m assuming you’ve all had Spring Break by now, because mine was super late this year! I went to the beach with my parents the first weekend, which was a lot of fun, but not nearly long enough- I could have stayed all week! But I have loved being at home and just hanging out with my sister, shopping, and hiding from my real life. Except on Thursday when I wrote an entire term paper in under 12 hours. Hi, my name is Kristen and my favorite stop on the train to academic success is the Procrastination Station. It was supposed to be due the week before spring break, then my professor decided to give us an extra week, which was really generous, but it was due during spring break. This should not have been a problem, except I tend to have a “due today, do today” policy on homework. It’s a really bad habit, I know, but I’ve been this way ever since my mom stopped having to sign my folder in about the second grade. I have tried to change my ways, but to no avail. It’s like I can’t do my best on something until I’m under extreme pressure and time constraints. This is probably an extremely unhealthy way to live life, but it’s gotten me pretty far and I only have two months of school left so let’s not fix what isn’t broken. But I digress.

Speaking of two months of school left, that’s a thing that’s happening right now. Actually it’s less than two months- I graduate from Texas A&M on May 16! Who else feels like they just started the spring semester? I came across this wonderful quote on Pinterest that really captured my distress on this issue:

march quote

That’s pretty much how I felt when Spring Break rolled around last week. It’s just all happened so fast! I haven’t worn my riding boots enough. I’m not sure if I’m ready for this college thing to be over. I don’t have a job yet (a personal favorite). Have I even been doing all my homework?! Easter dresses, what? I need to get a pedicure if I’m going to start wearing sandals soon. Ugh, it’s about to be pollen season. General nervous laughter. You get the idea.

I love spring and I’m super excited about it, but I feel like I skipped a couple of months somewhere! I guess this is just another lesson about how life moves so fast when you’re having fun. So let’s all take a deep breath, not freak out (HAHA), and take advantage of the rest of the school year! Or spring if you’re a real adult.

Have a great week, that’s all for meow!

Spring Greens

Hey Cats!

I thought we were done with the cold hard winter of 2014, but it decided to make an encore appearance Tuesday, following some bad weather Monday night. It was probably 60 degrees, which is unacceptable because it’s summer break and I want to go to the pool, not wear long sleeves. But I digress. I went to lunch with my sister on Tuesday, and decided to wear the warmest things I brought home- jeans and a chambray.

photo (72)

I started with my new floral chambray from Old Navy. I bought this last week, and it was on sale for only $11.49! I LOVE my solid chambray, but I’m afraid I’m going to wear it out soon- I wear it at least once a week! I love the tiny floral print on this one, it’s perfect for spring! I paired it with my bright green cropped jeans from JCPenney. (It looks like they’re out of this color, but they have a neon green- so cute!). I love this bright hue, it’s perfect for spring and summer, and it brings life to an otherwise simple outfit. I chose my brown Lucky Brand loafers, because they’re comfortable, versatile, and my newest favorite shoes. I bought them from Marshall’s and unfortunately cannot find them online- but the Lucky website has similar styles! For finishing touches, I added my everyday watch, roll bracelet, and rings, and my Kendra Scott Morgan Studs. I love this look because it’s casual yet interesting, and was excellent for a cooler day! But hopefully we won’t have too many more of those!

Floral Frocks with ModCloth

Hey Cats!

One of my favorite parts of spring is getting to wear fun dresses. After a few months of darker, heavier fabrics, wearing a spring dress in a bright pattern is a very freeing experience. I typically get a new dress for Easter each year, but this year I bought one for Ring Day instead. I had every intention of wearing it for Easter as well, but the more I looked at it, the more I decided it wasn’t “Easter-y” enough, so I wore one of my other favorite dresses.

If you’re looking for a new favorite dress this spring, you should definitely check out ModCloth! I was recently contacted by ModCloth to participate in their “Uniquely You” challenge for fashion bloggers. My job was to create an ensemble based around their gorgeous Bouquet of the Season dress, and I had so much fun!

modclothdress

I started (obviously) with the Bouquet of the Season Dress. First of all, I love the print and color scheme of this dress. That, coupled with the sweetheart strapless neckline makes it a beautiful, feminine choice. When I saw this dress, I knew I had to take the ensemble in a classic, timeless direction.

cardigan

Next, I added the Charter School Cardigan in Ivory. I really love how a cardigan looks over a strapless sundress, and it makes the outfit appropriate for many different occasions!

wedges

For footwear, I chose these lovely Every Day of the Chic wedges. They’re a bit more modern than the regular nude pump, but still a classic style.

earrings

bracelet

I decided to keep the jewelry simple and sweet. The Long-Awaited Earrings caught my eye because they’re not too fussy, but still dramatic enough to make a statement. I added the Knot a Moment Too Soon bangle to give the ensemble a dainty touch.

Modclothclutch

Finally, I chose the Garden Grandeur Clutch. I love the pop of turquoise this adds to the outfit, and how it gives this classic look a modern twist.

If you’re looking for a new dress this spring, head over to ModCloth! They have a great variety of floral frocks that will make you want to wear a dress almost every day of the week,

Spring 2014, Here I Come!

Hey Cats!

So I’m heading back to College Station today for the spring semester! I have mixed emotions about this. Obviously, I’m ready to get back to the place I love, but at the same time, this break has seemed incredibly short, and I wish I had a few more days to spend with my family. I actually hadn’t planned on going back this early, but I have a job interview Friday morning, which is exciting! Also one of my roommates will be back tomorrow as well, and the other on Friday (and our “fourth roommate”/bestie Ashley)! I can’t wait to see them and hear about their break.

Even though I feel like I didn’t get enough time at home, I still had a wonderful break. I got to hang out with my best friend Kinsey a lot, see my extended family, help my sister with wedding stuff, and had an all-around joyful holiday season. I just wish I had a few extra days to hang out and work on my afghan, but I do not. Luckily, I will be home in a few short weeks for my seastar’s wedding, so that will be nice!

I’m really looking forward to this semester, though. Spring semesters have such a different feel from fall. There’s no football, but somehow it seems just as (if not more) busy! I’m excited about my classes, especially my Health Communication class. Also, I’m getting my Aggie ring on April 11th and I literally cannot wait. I’m planning to join a few new organizations this semester, so that should keep me busy! Another goal is to find an internship for this summer, which is going to require a lot of work, but I’m ready! I’ll also be meeting with a few advisors to try and figure out what I’m going to do with my life because help me, I’m almost an adult. In addition to all these things, I’m looking forward to getting more involved with my church and making new friends in my classes and organizations. I can’t wait to see what God will teach me!

So even though I could stay a few more days, I’m ready to be back in a routine. Once I get everything packed (you should see this mess- I don’t even know where to begin) I’ll be singing my way back to Aggieland with my gurl Hilary Duff. Not a joke, I listen to her “Greatest Hits” album every time. She’s very inspirational, and I partially credit my high self-esteem in junior high (and now) to her.

I hope everyone has had a great holiday season, and all of you traveling back to school have a safe trip and a wonderful semester! I look forward to bloggin’ in 2014!
