Friday’s Five

Hey Cats!

Yayay Friday! I’m so exited for the weekend! I don’t have a lot planned, but I’m excited to have some time to rest, clean, and get caught up on thank-you notes from graduation. I did have some of what would usually be “weekend fun” on Pre-Friday yesterday, but more on that in a minute. As much as I definitely needed and enjoyed being by myself these past few weeks, the “new” is starting to wear off and I’m ready to make some new friends here. I started visiting churches a few weeks ago, so hopefully I will find a group of people to hang out with soon! But until then, it looks like it will be gourmet pizzas on Friday nights. I mean, hey, life could be worse. Here’s what I’m loving this week:

1. Burd Jewelry

IMG_0457

Last week, I received an invitation from Natasha, the creator of Burd Jewelry, to attend her second trunk show in Rice Village! I was excited because it was my first trunk show as a blogger, Rice Village is one of my favorite parts of Houston, and her jewelry is so beautiful and surprisingly affordable! I will be writing an entire post on Burd next week, but until then, check it out for yourself!

2. Holy Crepes

IMG_0456

After the trunk show, my bestie Ashley and I headed over to Sweet Paris Creperie for dinner. We’ve been here quite a few times, because it’s the best. This time, I tried something new and ordered the Ham & Gruyere crepe and I almost DIED it was so good. We also had a lemon dessert crepe, which was the perfect crisp finish to our meal. If you’re in Houston, be sure to stop by, even if it’s just for dessert! It’s also incredibly adorable inside.

3. The Skimm

the-skimm

As you all know, I cannot start my mornings without The Skimm. It’s a quick little email that gives you the rundown on current events in an easy-to-read, easy to understand format with fun little subject lines (possibly my favorite part) such as “Whoomp there it is”, etc. Want to know what’s going on in Washington, the Middle East, and even in cyberspace? Then Skimm it. That way when someone brings up the FIFA corruption in conversation, you can at least say, “you know, I have heard a bit about that”. BOOM. Adulthood made easy.

4. Cookie Butter Iced Coffee

cookie-butter-coffee

THIS IS NOT A DRILL, I REPEAT, NOT A DRILL. Lauren from DC Girl in Pearls, God bless her. She is a saint for sharing this with us all. I found her recipe for Cookie Butter Iced Coffee the other day, and after that I couldn’t really focus on anything else. I mean, it’s cookie butter and coffee. What a time to be alive. I still have to find a lazy girl’s method for iced coffee for this to work well, though. I think that’s going to be my weekend project. Maybe it can be yours too!

5. Milania Guidice

tumblr_n8oghavgr01ql5yr7o1_500

Miss her. She’s going to be that friend you can count on to say what everyone’s thinking, but nobody really wants to say out loud. And somebody needed to tell Tre, if we’re being real.

That’s all I’ve got. Have a great weekend!

Friday’s Five

Hey Cats!

Happy Friday! This week has flown by, which I can’t decide if I love or hate. Also, the weather. Who can I talk to about the disparities in frozen road distribution across Texas? Because it seems like literally everyone had snow days except for College Station. I mean, it snowed at Baylor in Waco, which isn’t an hour and a half away, so basically three feet in weather distance. And in Tyler, my parents and sister either had early dismissal or just didn’t go to work Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday. They would tell me that they were all sitting in the living room by the fire as I sat in my office trying to defrost my fingers after my trudge across campus. But I digress.

It’s been an eventful couple of weeks, so I’m sure I could do Friday’s Fifteen- but I’ll spare you. Here’s what I’ve been loving lately:

1. Meeting the Pioneer Woman

pioneer-woman

Something about senior year makes you want to do everything you’ve been meaning to do for the past four years, because “I’ll never get to do this again!”. For me, that was attending three sporting events in the span of five days. Shocking, I know. Actually, I have really enjoyed basketball since I was in high school, and Aggie basketball is 15x better. Anyways, I went to the game against LSU last Tuesday night with my friend Shelbie, and lo and behold, Ree Drummond, the Pioneer Woman was in attendance. She is my culinary hero, and I’ve always said that I would be open to living on a ranch only if I could be as fabulous as she is. We walked over to the section she was in and asked her to take a few pictures, and she was sweet enough to take one with each one of us! She told us that her daughter Alex had just been accepted to Texas A&M, and asked us why she should choose Aggieland. I think I said something really vague along the lines of “it’s the best!”, but what I really meant was, “This place means the world to me. Not only have I received the highest quality education, but I’ve made the best of friends. I’ve learned so much about my faith, myself, and other people. There’s a sense of friendship among literally everyone here that’s unlike anything I’ve ever experienced, and I know that I’ll be a part of that even after I graduate. But most importantly, this place has given me the skills to become the type of person I always wanted to be, but never really had the confidence to be.” (#senioryearsap) But obviously, that would have been a little long-winded. So we snapped our photos, thanked Ree and told her that Alex would be making the best decision of her life by becoming an Aggie, and skipped back to our seats to witness a very exciting Aggie victory over those silly LSU kitties.

2. French Toast in a Mug

french-toast-mug

I don’t know what it is, but something about making food in a mug just gets me really excited. I think it’s because I feel like there aren’t as many things to clean up afterwards, but let’s be honest, I am a walking mess so “minimal cleanup” is kind of a pipe dream for me. I found this recipe for French Toast in a mug on Pretty Prudent, and it looks like a wonderful option for Saturday breakfast. Also how cute is that mug?

3. #LlamaDrama

llamas

Yesterday, the Internet completely lost its mind. First came the Great Llama Chase of 2015, and the “what color is this dress?” debacle (which I will not address-you people have too much time on your hands, go do some homework.). Most important, obviously, is the high-speed llama chase. This Buzzfeed article provides excellent footage of two llamas frolicking through the streets of Arizona. Bless them. Also those little suckers are FAST. Just look at ’em go.

4.The Skimm

the-skimm

As I may have shared before, I love to start my day with The Skimm! There is SO MUCH going on in the world, and I’m not just talking about llama chases and silly debates about color. The Skimm is a daily email that gives you a quick overview of important issues- ISIS, Israel, the Keystone XL Pipeline, and the like. It’s important to stay informed, so if you haven’t subscribed, do it right now!

5. Tildon Dress

tildon-dress

A few weeks ago, I went to Houston to visit my bestie Ashley, and I tried on this Tildon shift dress at Nordstrom. I couldn’t justify buying it, because I had just bought a similar dress that I hadn’t even worn yet. And then last week, I bought yet another similar dress that I have yet to wear. But I kind of can’t stop thinking about this dress- the cut is very flattering, and the colors are so much fun! I don’t really need it, so I’m going to try and control myself, but no promises. If anyone feels like talking me into buying it, be my guest.

That’s all for meow! I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend- and stay warm!

Friday’s Five

Hey Cats!

Yes, I am indeed alive (barely). I have been so insanely busy over the last few weeks it’s not even funny- I’m talking being at home for maybe two hours other than sleeping every day. Yikes! But, Thanksgiving and Christmas break are coming, so I will have some time to rest and focus on the blog for a while, which makes me really happy! I’ve discovered quite a bit during my absence, so I decided to return with Friday’s Five and show you what I’ve been loving lately.

1. What I’m Reading- The Skimm

the-skimm

So a few weeks ago in my Health Communication class, we were talking about how important it is to be aware of current events, and how millennials aren’t doing a great job of staying on top of that. One of my classmates mentioned The Skimm, a daily email that gives a rundown on the happenings of the world, and once I saw it for myself, I was in! This is going to make me sound like a total nerd, but reading my Skimm email is probably my favorite part of the morning now. It  makes its way to my inbox around 6 or 7 am with a sassy subject line like “Bye Felicia” or “So fresh and so clean” and I just love it. It shares 5-7 snippets of news each day in an easy-to-read, slightly snarky voice, which is right up my alley. From the Uber media meltdown to updates on Palestine and how Washington is adjusting to the GOP taking over Congress, the Skimm will fill you in.  So if you’d like a side of responsible citizenship with your morning coffee (you do),  sign up today!

2. What I’m Buying- JCrew Factory Quilted Jacket

jcrew quilted jacket

PRAISE HIM. PRAISE THE LORD. I have been literally dying over this JCrew Factory quilted jacket in Olive Moss for months. It was on sale back in September, but since it wasn’t that chilly I thought it could wait. I was wrong, so very wrong. Have you ever heard the phrase “nothing haunts us like the things we didn’t buy”? Well for me, it was this. The price went back up, and the temperatures went down, and every morning for about three weeks all I could think was “Why the crap did I not buy that jacket?” Luckily, I received an intriguing email from the Crew yesterday, so I decided to make a quick price check, AND IT WAS 50% OFF PLUS FREE SHIPPING. I laughed, I cried, I ran downstairs for my credit card without batting an eye. It is mine and will be here next week(ish), so stay tuned!

3. What I’m Doing– Songfest

songfest

Part of the reason I’ve been so insanely busy is because I’m participating in Songfest, an annual fundraiser hosted by Chi Omega sorority at Texas A&M. Each year, different sororities, fraternities, and other organizations pair up and prepare a seven-minute dance routine to perform and compete to raise money for their philanthropies. My sorority (Sigma Phi Lambda) and our partners have been working SO HARD, and tonight and Saturday are the show! Hopefully we will win, but if not, I’ve had a great time dancing and making new friends!

4. What I’m Eating– Spicy Brussels Sprouts

spicy brussels sprouts

I know, I know. Brussels sprouts again. I’m sorry, but they’re my favorite vegetable, and we should all just be glad that I’m voluntarily eating something green. But I came across this recipe for spicy brussels sprouts a week or two ago, and finally tried them earlier this week (speaking of, have I told you guys the story about how my garbage disposal/dishwasher was broken for almost a month? Well it was, and those were trying times- I cried). Just add a sprinkle of red pepper flakes for a little kick- SO GOOD.

5. What I’m Laughing At

cats and money

This, for obvious reasons.

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend! That’s all for meow!
