Trends I’m Loving-D’Orsay Flats

Hey Cats!

This week is a short one- whoop! It was nice to have an extra day to relax and get some chores done, even if it did rain all day.

I typically prefer sandals over close-toed shoes during the spring and summer, but a particular style of flats has caught my eye lately, and I’m considering adding a pair to my shoe family because they’re just so cute! With their pointed toe and two-piece style, D’Orsay flats are a fresh take on a classic, and I’m loving all the different options!

general flats kate spade

These kate spade General flats are perfect for the office, or just for everyday with a pair of dark skinnies. I love the classic combination of nude and black, and the bow adds the perfect feminine touch.

charles david flats

I love the pop of orange that these Charles by Charles David Bermuda flats bring to the table. It pairs nicely with the nude, and I also like the slight wedge- that way your feet aren’t killing you because of too flat soles! This would be great with black cigarette pants for the office, or a cute cuffed pair of boyfriend jeans for everyday.

modcloth flats

I love the whimsical color and print of these Dreaming of Destinations flats from Modcloth.  They’re a great, fun option, and would be cute paired with white skinny jeans and a chambray for an effortless everyday look.

How do you feel about D’Orsay flats? Let me know!

Trends I’m Loving- Agate Anything

Hey Cats!

I have been noticing agate popping up in jewelry and home decor a lot lately. You might be wondering what agate is, as was I. According to Wikipedia (credible source, I know) agate is a “microcrystalline variety of silica, formed by siliceous deposits in volcanoes”. Basically, it’s a very pretty rock found in volcanoes that, when sliced, has bands of beautiful colors. I think it’s a good thing I took Horticulture instead of Geology. Anyways, it’s a gorgeous natural material that brings a lot of interest and unique flair to accessories for both your ensembles and your living space. Here are a few of my favorite agate items:

agate bangle

This agate bangle from Ellie’s Sparkles is a great way to wear the trend. I love the white and gray agate, it reminds me of sea shells- perfect for summer! This would be a great piece to anchor your stacked wrist.

agate necklace

I also love this Sliced Hot Pink Agate necklace from Etsy. It’s a simple pendant necklace, but the pop of hot pink would instantly spruce up any neutral outfit.

agate coasters

I’m dying to have these Agate Coasters from Kate Spade Saturday for my apartment. How cute would these be on a black or gold coffee table? (Not that I have either one of those…ours is powder blue, but we’re talking about the ideal decor situation.) This is a great, small way to incorporate the agate trend into your home.

agate bookends

These agate bookends from West Elm would add the perfect touch of interesting to your bookshelf. I personally like to have some odds and ends on my bookshelf, I feel like it makes it decorative in addition to functional. I love the creamy blue and white colors of these bookends- it’s a more earthy-looking take on the trend.

Also, fun fact, I just read the book in the middle of the picture, The Spirit Catches You and You Fall Down by Anne Fadiman for my Health Communication class. Because you wanted to know. It was actually quite emotional, and presented the unique challenges that doctors and people of different cultures face in the American health care system. If you ever have some time on your hands, you should read it- it really challenged my perspectives on some things! But I digress.

How would you like to incorporate the agate trend into your wardrobe or home? Let me know in the comments!

Trends I’m Loving- Turban Headbands

Hey Cats!

I hope everyone had a great weekend! Mine was pretty uneventful, but that’s what I wanted! I’ve had busy weekends every week since I got back from Christmas break, so it was nice to hang out and relax a little.

Today I’m going to share with you a trend I’ve had my eye on for a while, but haven’t quite been brave enough to try! I once saw Kourtney Kardashian wearing a turban and thought it was the best thing ever, but was certain I could never pull it off. Then, turban headbands started popping up everywhere- a less bold version of the trend. While I still haven’t mustered up the courage to try it myself, I love this look! It’s different, but as easy as throwing on a headband!

I’ve seen these at many boutiques here in College Station, but my favorite come from an Etsy shop I stumbled across a while back. Rayna Jaye has such a great variety of colors and patterns. I honestly can’t decide which is my favorite! I also love the width- I’m really picky about headbands, I can’t have them too fat or too skinny, and these are the perfect width, especially for a turban-style headband.

Here are a few of my favorites! Also, doesn’t Rayna have the best hair you’ve ever seen? I’m jeal.

Emerald and Gray Color Block - Turban Style Headband

I love this Emerald and Gray Color Block option! The two colors give it a fun twist, but it’s not too busy.

Rose Garden - Turban Style Headband

Next is this Rose Garden number. I love the delicate, feminine print of this one- it would be precious paired with a chambray, dark denim, and a pair of nude flats.

I also love this Blush Glitz turban. It’s a little bit of sparkle, but it’s still pretty neutral, so you could wear it with a lot!

Have you tried the turban headband trend? Let me know, and then be sure to check out Rayna Jaye on Etsy!

*Special thanks to Rayna for allowing me to use her photographs!*

1 Reason I’m Over The “Blog List” Trend

Hey Cats!

It seems every time I check Facebook, there is a different article telling me a certain number of reasons I should do/not do a specific thing. From “23 Things to Do Besides Getting Engaged Before Age 23”, to “16 Must-Have Qualities in a Husband”, to “39 Reasons Leggings Qualify as Pants” (this one I could get behind), everybody has an opinion on everything, and they’re darn sure going to let us all know about it. AND THEN, some passionate soul takes things too seriously, becomes personally offended, and writes a rebuttal that is consequently smeared all over my Facebook timeline as well.

Let’s be real: this is getting old. Exhausting, really. So naturally, I’ve written a list of my own, but I’ve decided to keep it incredibly brief.  Every time I come across “25 Things You Should Consider Before Deciding What Jewelry to Wear Today”, here’s what comes to mind:

1) I’ll do what I want, thanks. I’m confident enough in my own life choices to know that the opinion of someone I don’t know has no effect on me. I’m not saying I’m against taking a stand on something and telling me why you did- I’ve done that before. I’m just saying that the imperatives are unnecessary. You think you’re better off because you got engaged before you hit a quarter of a century? Cool, I’m going to go blog about my new salmon recipe, respect your choices, and not tell you what to do. What you choose to do is your business, and what I choose to do is mine. I can’t wait for the day we all understand this and Facebook can go back to being my source of comic relief.

Thank you for humoring my sass.

Trends Two Ways- The Flannel Button-Down

Hey Cats!

I hope everyone had a great Christmas with their friends and family- I know I did! Also, I didn’t really intend to take a week-long blogging break- it just kind of happened! But I’m back this week, and I’ve got a lot planned!

Today, I would like to share one of my favorite trends from fall & winter, the flannel button-down. Now, this trend is something I wouldn’t usually wear- in fact, it’s very “hipster”, and if there’s one thing you should know about me, it’s that the easiest way to insult me is to say I’m dressed like a hipster. However, this trend started sweeping College Station, so I decided to give it a try. It has since made its way to the realm of actual fashion, and I couldn’t be more pleased.

I will say that the “college girl version” of this trend is quite different from the “fashion blogger version”, but I love them both. Let’s start with

“The College Girl Look”

This look is definitely more casual and comfortable. As is the trend with t-shirts these days, the bigger the better (to an extent). Both of my flannels are from the men’s section- partly because of sizing, partly because of colors and availability. I like to wear mine with leggings, so I have to make sure there is sufficient coverage. I will typically wear my flannels with leggings or skinny jeans and either riding boots or Uggs, depending on the temperature and whether or not I care about what I look like. (Yes, I still wear Uggs, no I don’t really care what you think about it) Occasionally, I will wear a t-shirt underneath and leave the flannel unbuttoned, or add a chunky infinity scarf.

I wore this outfit shopping over Thanksgiving break, and it’s a classic example of the casual flannel look. My dad thinks it’s awesome that flannels are “cool”, so he bought my sister and I one for Christmas, and I’m slightly embarrassed to admit I’ve worn it three times since then- it’s December 30th. If you’re looking to wear a flannel this way, check out the men’s department at JCPenney. They’re currently on sale for $12.99!

“The Fashion Blogger Look”

This look is a bit more dressy than the “College Girl” style. In my mind, I’m picturing a fitted flannel paired with a party skirt and tights for a festive holiday look. Many of my favorite bloggers have taken this trend to the next level. Check out Grace from A Southern Drawl, Amber from King and Kind, and Emily from The Sweetest Thing. My flannel I got for Christmas is a bit more fitted, so I’m looking forward to experimenting for a more polished approach!

What do you think about the flannel trend? Let me know!
