Hey Cats!

Happy Fri-Yay! This week has been so busy that I don’t even know where it went. But it’s been fun! Last night, I drove downtown to have dinner with my mom, who’s in town for training, so it was great to see her! After work today, I’m going into full-on vacation mode, with pedicures at 6, then finishing up shopping, packing, and getting to sleep early for our 5 am flight Sunday morning. It will be here before I know it! Here’s what I’ve been loving this week:

1.College Station’s Best

Napa Flats CS (2)

So I found this list  of the 45 Best Places to Eat in College Station and it made me want to return to Aggieland for the sole reason of eating. I’m proud to say that I’ve eaten at most of those places (if I could choose my last meal, it would def be from Napa Flats), but there’s a few that are new! And some that I’ve missed. Just another reason to go back! If you live there, try some for me!

2. Lyon and Post

Lyon-post

I’ve been seeing other bloggers talk about Lyon + Post for a while now, but I didn’t really know what it was so I just ignored it until I saw that one of my favorite bloggers (Brenna from Chic Street Style) scored a mega deal on an adorable dress, and was intrigued. After perusing the site, I discovered that it’s a site that sends you clothing to try on but doesn’t charge you for any of it unless you keep it! Which is great for those of us who are short and are sometimes scared to buy things online. They have great brands like Elizabeth and James, BB Dakota, Vince, and more!  There’s no subscription fee, and you get to try before you buy, just like a brick and mortar store! It vaguely reminds me of “About the Fit”, the fictional company that Anne Hathaway’s character runs in The Intern (which is a fabulous movie, by the way. It motivates me to no end to be the ultimate girlboss, and I watched it with my ex-boyfriend and he hated it and that’s part of the reason he’s not my boyfriend anymore. Bye). I’m waiting until I return from vacation to send for my first batch of clothes, but I’ve already got my eyes on a few things! If you’re interested, register here to get a $30 credit for your first purchase!

3. White Queso

white queso

White queso is my latest obsession. Actually, any queso, but I’ve been on a particular quest for queso blanco since Cinco de Mayo. The clinical staff in my office had fajitas catered on Cinco de Mayo from a local Mexican food restaurant, and they had white queso. One of my coworkers was telling me how delish it was, so obviously I had to go sneak some. Then I kept finding reasons to go up to the front, but I would actually just stop by the break room and sneak a chip loaded with queso. I’m not proud, but I’m also not sorry about it. Anyways, right after the queso-swiping incident, I came across this recipe for white queso from The Baking Fairy, so obviously I pinned it. Some of my friends and I are planning on grilling dinner one night soon, and I’m definitely making this!

4. GIF of the Week

Brandi-redmond

This is how I feel that VACATION IS HERE!!!!! I literally cannot control myself. P.S., still trying to decide how I feel about Real Housewives of Dallas. I think Real Housewives of Houston would have been better, but Andy didn’t ask me. But considering the above, maybe he should have. ALSO: speaking of vacation: I will not be posting next week…sorry! I think it’s just time for a break from everything. But! Check back the following week, because I will have plenty of beach content!!

That’s all for meow- see you in a week!

Friday’s Few

Hey Cats!

Happy Friday! And happy Good Friday! I was unexpectedly given the day off, so I will be driving home this morning to spend time with my family this weekend. I went home last weekend as well for a dentist appointment, but I hadn’t been home since Christmas, so it will be good to see my family again!

Previously, I titled my Friday series “Friday’s Five”. Now, “Friday’s Few” isn’t exactly a drastic change, but I still want to explain. You all know I don’t appreciate being put in a box, and I don’t want to be tied down to the number five. Sometimes I struggled to find five “things” and I didn’t like putting up something that wasn’t my best, but I did it anyways to fulfill the “five”. So I’ve decided to make it a “few” instead. Maybe three, maybe five, maybe fifteen! Flexible  Friday’s Few. I love it.

So here we go, the first edition of “Friday’s Few!

1. College Town Glasses

CS glasses 3

Some of us are still mildly obsessed with our college towns, and are unashamed. These glasses have maps of your favorite place on earth etched onto the surface, to remind you of how you used to walk those streets during your three mile hike to class and were in the best shape of your life. Just me? Okay. But seriously, these are adorable keepsakes to have and bring out on gameday! You can find many towns from Auburn to Waco and everything in between at Bourbon & Boots!

2. Strappy Sandals

sam edleman heels

I am loving this strappy heel trend for spring. Especially this pair in “Bubblegum” from Sam Edelman! The tassels on these shoes make them extra fun, and I will definitely be on the hunt for this or a similar pair. These would be adorable with a solid pastel dress, or white jeans and simple top.

3. Hannah Montana

This week was the ten year anniversary of the premiere of Hannah Montana, apparently. I found this Buzzfeed article that shows each of the cast members in their first and last episode, and it’s precious! Honestly, I only posted this because last weekend when I was at home, we saw Oliver/Mitchell Musso eating frozen yogurt in Tyler. My sister and I lost. our. minds. Quietly, of course. While we didn’t have the courage to talk to him or ask him for a picture, I tweeted him. He, unsurprisingly, did not respond.

4. Easter

I hope all of you have a wonderful Easter weekend, and remember what it’s all about. It’s about Jesus, who died for our sins, gave us grace, and rose again! Enjoy your weekend with family!

Friday’s Five

Hey Cats!

As I mentioned earlier this week, I’ve decided to add a few new features to the blog. One is Monday Musings, and the other is Friday’s Five. Now, I know that basically every blogger does Friday’s Five, but I think it’s a great way to share what I’ve been up to during the week aside from blogging, and to share little things I’ve come across that might not be able to stand alone as a single blog post. So here’s this week’s- enjoy!

1. This past weekend, my roommate Trina and I went to see Bring It On: The Musical on campus, and it was to die for. It was basically all of my unrealized childhood dreams (being cheer captain and a Broadway star) rolled into two hours. The acting and singing was phenomenal, and the stunts were everything. If it’s coming to a city near you, you definitely don’t want to miss it!

2. Next is this hilarious video of a girl screaming “Do You Want to Build A Snowman” while getting a splinter removed. I found it on Buzzfeed, where all good humor comes from, while I was supposed to be writing a paper- this is totally better. I honestly probably shouldn’t laugh at this, but I can’t help it. I watched it about three times in a row and was rolling on the floor in laughter, probably because I identify with this child and her dramatics.

3. My bestie Ashley and I have been dying to try out Wafology, a new food truck in the BCS. We finally went on “Waffle Wednesday”, and it was just divine. We both had the chicken & waffle sandwich with maple aioli sauce, and we agreed that it was the best thing we’d ever eaten. I also love how it was folded up like a little waffle taco- tacos are one of my main food groups.  They have many other delicious menu items, and it’s  my goal to try them all. If you’re in the Bryan/College Station area, FIND THEM. They post their location on Twitter and Facebook daily!

4. Last night my sorority had a mixer on Mount Aggie, a turf-covered “mountain” on campus, with a men’s organization. My roommate Trina and I went, and we had all the fun. All of it. We sled down it a couple of times by ourselves, but mostly together. We had a major crash at one point, but no injuries! Obviously, we took multiple selfies and videos as we descended, which may or may not have caused a few wrecks…oops!

5. I came across these monogrammed Jack Rogers sandals a few days ago, and I’m obsessed. If we’re being honest, I didn’t really get the hype over these shoes for the longest time- they kind of reminded me of something I would’ve worn at age five when my mother still dressed me. But, my feelings have recently changed, and they’re definitely on my to-buy list for the summer! I mean, they have a monogram, so I obviously #needit.

I hope everyone has a great weekend!

Outfit of the Day- Sunday Steal

Hey Cats!

I usually try to post at least once a week if not more, but this past week and a half has been very busy! I finally got a job, so I’ve been working every day, and when I get home all I really want to do is lay down and play Candy Crush. I love having a job, but it’s hard getting used to working all the time! Also, last weekend I went to visit my old roommate/one of my good friends Ashley in College Station. It was great to see her and wonderful to be back, even if it was just for a little while! While I was there, I did a little shopping at a few of my favorite College Station-only spots, and I found this gorgeous dress on sale at Northgate Vintage for only $14.50! Talk about a steal. As you may know from one of my previous posts, I am obsessed with Northgate Vintage. It’s a great place to find pieces for your Single Girl Closet on your College Girl Budget.

I love the colors of this dress, and the floral/damask print! I also love the exposed, contrasting zipper. It’s very different from any of my other dresses, which is great because I feel like they’re all the same! I was really excited to wear this to church today, and here’s what I paired it with:

I chose my Steve Madden nude heels because I thought they would look great with the blush background of the dress, and my Kendra Scott Elle earrings in turquoise! I didn’t add a lot of jewelry because of the intricate pattern on the dress. While I am absolutely obsessed with this outfit, I want to be able to wear this dress in different ways! Any suggestions?

Shopping Spotlight: Northgate Vintage

Hey Cats!

As you know, there’s no place I’d rather be than College Station. While it is one of the best college towns in the south, (this is in Southern Living, not just my biased/correct opinion) it isn’t exactly the “Retail Capital of Texas”. There are some great little boutiques around town, but my personal favorite is Northgate Vintage. Right across from campus in College Station’s “bar district”, Northgate, this precious shop is tucked away between a pizza parlor and a Starbucks. In fact, if you were just strolling the sidewalks, you might walk right past it without even noticing. But don’t do that! Go up the (slightly terrifying) spiral staircase to a wonderful, uniquely-decorated, space and you will find yourself in absolute vintage heaven. It’s a small store, but it is filled with beautiful pieces that your closet is begging to be filled with. Begging. In the fall, they have perfect maroon pieces for gameday in the SEC (an increasingly formal event), in the winter they have a great selection of vintage sweaters, and now they have wonderful bright-colored, lighter pieces for spring! They also have a men’s section, but I don’t shop for men,  so if you do, you should go check it out and get back to me. My favorite thing about Northgate Vintage, however, is their jewelry. Jewelry has become a recent obsession of mine. It can add variety and interest to your wardrobe, and dresses up otherwise basic outfits. The jewelry at Northgate Vintage is always in step with the current trends, but still unique. There is something for everyone, from classic stud earrings to over-the-top statement necklaces. And it’s super affordable, most of the earrings are $6-$7, and the necklaces are $11-$15. So that means you can buy a lot and not feel bad about overspending! I have purchased a few baubles from Northgate Vintage this year, and they have made countless appearances in my wardrobe ever since!

The beginnings of an extensive collection.

These gold earrings were my first purchase from Northgate Vintage, marking the commencement of my obsession. I bought them in the fall when gold and chevron was all the rage. They are a little bold, which is not what I would originally gravitate towards, but I have loved them! I’ve paired them with a sheer maroon and white top for gameday, a blazer and boots for dinner, and a simple tank and skirt for going out!

Next we have these adorable little clothes hanger earrings. I saw these and knew that I had to have them! I also bought my sister a matching pair for Christmas, and she loves them too! The fact that they’re clothes hangers conveys my passion for fashion, and I love the touch of whimsy from the mismatched pearls and rhinestones. I wear these with anything and everything! I’ll throw them on with a t-shirt and leggings for class, or if I’m wearing a shirt or dress with a busy pattern. They have also become my go-to earrings for silver jewelry days.

These grey chandelier earrings are also something I wouldn’t normally buy, but they have proved to be new favorites as well! Grey is a new favorite neutral of mine, so I love how these go with lots of different outfits. As of right now I’ve only worn them once, with a cotton dress with a small light pink and cornflower blue floral print, a blue jean jacket, and boots. I tried them on, not expecting them to match, but they did! I also plan to wear them with a cute cream, lace peplum top I just purchased!
Now for one of my absolute favorites. These teal teardrop oversized studs complete my life. Well, they nearly complete my wardrobe. I’m loving teal for spring and summer, and I’m thinking it will transition into fall as well! The teardrop shape makes them different from your average studs. I wear these with many different things, such as a blazer and boots, a solid black longsleeve tee and mustard jeans, and even dresses! They’re beautiful and interesting, yet still simple enough to wear with busy outfits.
Don’t you just love it when you find something that’s been at the top of your wishlist forever? That’s what happened when I found this light pink statement necklace. Statement necklaces have been growing exponentially in popularity, and it was seriously stressing me out that I hadn’t jumped on the trendy train yet. I like this because it’s not too extreme but it’s still an attention-getter. I also really like the color, it’s more versatile than I expected! I typically wear this with solid tees and a cardigan, both of which I hoard, so I have plenty of options. I’m also looking forward to trying this with my new peplum top I mentioned earlier!
I absolutely adore all of my baubles from Northgate Vintage, and I look forward to returning soon for another shopping spree! In addition to their merchandise, I admire this business because they give back to the College Station and global community. They have hosted numerous profit shares for organizations and sororities benefiting their philanthropies, and they carry products whose profits benefit people around the world, such as TOMS, bracelets and headbands made by women in third-world countries, and makeup that fights human trafficking. So, the next time you’re down in Aggieland, stop by Northgate Vintage for a unique College Station shopping experience! Or check them out online or on Facebook!
Until Next Time!
