Recipe-Cookie Butter Mug Cake

Hey Cats!

Yay Thursday, Yay weekend, Yay it’s almost my birthday! I’m headed to work early this morning, and then to East Texas around 2, and I can’t wait to see my family!

Also, last night I had the best time with a group of my friends. We all met in a Group Communication class our sophomore year, and it was definitely meant to be. We’re all different, yet similar at the same time, and it’s been wonderful getting to know them both in and outside of classes. It’s great to have friends in the same program, especially since a lot of people think that Communication majors don’t take their lives seriously (hi, we do.)…we share the same struggles with advisors, finding resume-boosting internships, and figuring out exactly what to do with our lives. They also all love Jesus, so it’s awesome to have friends to talk about the above-listed things from the same perspective. We got together last night and had a nice little chat, as we do every so often since we don’t have classes together much anymore, and it was such a treat!

You’re probably wondering where this cookie butter recipe is by now. But if you know cookie butter, you know it’s worth waiting for. College Station nor Tyler has a Trader Joe’s, so the last time I went to Houston to visit my bestie Ashley I begged to go, for the sole purpose of purchasing a jar of gold for myself. I typically eat it by the spoonful (just one at a time, obviously), but the other night I decided to get creative. I love mug cakes, and I love cookie butter, so I decided to combine the two. I loosely followed this recipe, but omitted the White Chocolate Wonderful because 1. I don’t even know what that is and 2. I obviously was fresh out.

Please excuse the nibble taken out of the top…I had to see if it was done!

Here’s what you’ll need:

-4 tablespoons flour

-4 tablespoons sugar

-1/4 tsp baking soda

-1 egg

-2 tbsp Cookie Butter (I may have used a little less…this stuff is sacred)

-5 tbsp milk

Here’s what you do:

– Combine all the ingredients together in a bowl, using a whisk or a fork to make sure the cookie butter is fully incorporated. This may take a few minutes, and it will be pretty thin batter.

-Pour into a large mug- I used one of my faves, isn’t it beautiful?

-Microwave for about 2 minutes, or until firm.

Enjoy! You could also throw in some chocolate chips if you like! I ate this and watched the first RHONY reunion, which was anti-climactic. I just want to get to the part where we talk about Aviva throwing her leg. #bye.

Trends I’m Loving- Personalized Jewelry

Hey Cats!

Happy Tuesday! I’m so ready for the weekend already (as usual), but this week I’m extra excited- my birthday is on Sunday! I’m so excited to go home and celebrate with my family, and come back and celebrate with my friends! Twenty-one has been fun, but I’m definitely ready to be feelin’ 22- more on that later!

I know that monograms and personalization aren’t really “new” trends in jewelry, but I feel like there are more ways than ever to show off your initials and more through your bling. Here are a few of my favorites:

saturday initial necklace

I love this simple initial necklace from Kate Spade Saturday. It would be a great everyday necklace, and would be a nice way to anchor a few layered necklaces.

benevolent jewels name

Next is this Engraved Bar Necklace from Benevolent Jewels. I love the idea of a name instead of a monogram- or even a Twitter handle for bloggers!

Image of Silver Initial Ring

Last are these initial rings, also from Benevolent Jewels. You can wear just one, or you can stack them for all of your initials! This is a cute way to add a small, personal touch to your outfit.

What do you think about personalized jewelry? Let me know!

Today, I’m linking up with Zelle from A Southern Style, Kristina from Medicine & Manicures, Katie from Champagne & Suitcases, and Amanda from As the Wine Cork Turns for #TrendingTuesday- head over and see what’s trendy this Tuesday!

Monday’s Musings

Hey Cats!

Happy Monday! I hope everyone had a great weekend- I know I did!

This week’s Monday’s Musings is a little different. I was contacted by Carolyn from lover.ly to weigh in on an age-old debate: is it ever okay to wear white to a wedding?

katie's wedding

This is my sister and I at her wedding in February. I was Maid of Honor, and I obviously didn’t wear white, but it was discussed! Both my sister and I love Kate Middleton, and tossed around the idea of me wearing a white dress like Pippa did. However, I feel like white for the bridal party only works with high-profile weddings where everyone is so focused on what the bride will be wearing- Kate Middleton, Kim Kardashian, etc. But if a bride chooses white for her wedding party, then go for it- I think it’s gorgeous!

For guests, I would suggest sticking to another color. While I don’t think a guest in a white dress would actually steal the spotlight from the bride, I think it’s still poor taste. There are so many other colors you could wear, and at the end of the day, while you should want to look your best, it’s not your day. Save the white dress for another occasion, and focus on celebrating your friend!

What do you think- is it rude to wear white to a wedding? Let me know in the comments!

Warby Parker Beacon Collection

Hey Cats!

This week is seriously flying by! But that’s fine by me, we all know I love the weekend. This weekend was supposed to be pretty calm and relaxing, but now my parents are coming into town Friday, I’m babysitting Saturday, and I have to do my homework that I’ve been putting off- yikes! It should be fun though!

Last week, Brian from Warby Parker contacted me about their new Beacon Collection, launching today. I’ve seen Warby Parker frames (and think they’re adorable), and was aware of their “buy a pair, give a pair” program, so I’m so excited to work with them!

The Beacon Collection is inspired those spontaneous nights where having no plans leads to great adventure. I don’t know about you, but throughout college, those have been some of my favorite nights that I’ll remember forever. They’re carefree, casual, and can happen anywhere at anytime. This collection is the same- perfect for anything from a night out to a last-minute road trip with friends.

Here are a few of my favorites!

WP14004_MCKEE_200_OPT_TOPDOWN

First are the McKee eyeglasses in Whiskey Tortoise. I LOVE the rounded shape of these frames! They would be an interesting yet casual addition to your outfit. They also come in Moonstone, a smoky, clear gray that I also love!

Some of the frames are also available as sunglasses, many of which I have my eye on:

Garrett in Blue Slate Fade

WP14004_INGRAM_942_SUN_TOPDOWN

Ingram in Tiger Tortoise

WP14004_NANCY_933_SUN_TOPDOWN

And Nancy in Lemon.

So cute, right? Head over to Warby Parker to see the rest of the collection, and to get a pair for yourself!

Trending Tuesday- White Sneakers

Hey Cats!

I apologize for not posting yesterday, I had too much fun this weekend and neglected my homework- oops! I should be back to my regular posting schedule from now on!

Lately, I’ve had my eye on a more casual style, white sneakers. They make an excellent addition to lots of ensembles, from denim shorts to casual dresses, and they’re perfect for summer. Here are a few of my favorites:

converse

My favorites are these Converse ‘Fancy’ All Star sneakers. I tried on the Classic pair, but for some reason they didn’t look right, so I may try these- they look less clunky and more of the style I want. I digress. These are definitely a classic, and would be a staple in your shoe closet for years. They could be dressed up or down, but I would wear them with my distressed denim shorts and a casual tank.

keds

Next is this adorable eyelet pair from Keds. I love eyelet details, they’re so feminine and fun! These would be cute with a summer sundress for a casual night out.

ks-saturday-keds

Just for fun, I added these Keds x kate spade saturday polka dotted sneakers. They’re not solid white, but they’re still so cute! If I could have more than one pair, these would definitely be my second! These would pair well with a bright yellow sundress for an afternoon of shopping.

What do you think about white sneakers for summer? Let me know!

Friday’s Five

Hey Cats!

Happy Friday! I’m in Houston this weekend visiting my bestie Ashley! I’m sure I’ll have lots to share next week! But this week isn’t quite over yet, so let me share with you what I’ve been loving this week:

1. First is this article “In Defense of Having No Idea What to do With Your Life” by NYC PR Girls, one of my newest favorite blogs. As we all know, and I’m sure will be hearing more about as I search for jobs this year (STOP, old), I really don’t know what I want to be when I grow up.  It makes me feel better to know that there are many other people in the same boat, and that it will be okay!

2.

kendrascottEllie

Next is the Kendra Scott GlamRocks Collection that launched Wednesday. My favorites are these Ellie studs in multicolor drusy, but the whole collection is fabulous, so check it out when you have the chance!

3. Next is a chance for me to toot my own horn a bit. I’ve been to the gym every day this week! I’ve never enjoyed working out, but for some reason it’s my new hobby. It feels good both mentally and physically to get some exercise, and I’m going to keep it up as long as I can!

4.

sassy kate

Next is Sassy Kate, because why not?

5.

Milania

Saving the best for last: Jersey’s back, trolls. I’m so excited for this season, mostly because of Dina and Milania. I think that Milania Giudice is the true star of the Real Housewives of New Jersey, and apparently it’s a common opinion. My roommates and I found this hilarious Buzzfeed article with 15 glorious reasons why Milania is everyone’s favorite Housewife. (Also filed under: reasons Milania Giudice is my spirit animal)

I’m linking up with Amy & Karli today for Oh Hey Friday!

Have a great weekend! That’s all for meow!

Totes Perfect.

Hey Cats!

As I may have mentioned, I’m getting a taste of “big city life” this summer, in the sense that I have a long walk and a bus ride to get to work every morning. At first, I dreaded the trek, but now it’s just part of my everyday routine. The only problem was carrying all of my possessions- my lunch, heels, water bottle, and everything else. It took me a long time to decide which tote bag I wanted, but once I finally did, it changed my life. Well, my commute at least.

photo (85)

I chose the Essential Tote from Marley Lilly in navy with a gray monogram. It arrived about an hour before I left for the lake for July 4th, which was a good way to break it in! It’s a great size for a lake tote, which is a bonus since I bought it for work. Every day, I’ll fill it with my lunchbox, my heels (and flats after I change on the bus), my Camelbak, an umbrella if necessary, and as of late, my textbook, notebook, and pencil pouch so I can work on my class on the bus. There’s still room if I ever decide to pack extras, such as gym clothes and shoes, which is a plus.

It’s also incredibly durable. I’ve already spilled water in it (oops), and since it’s lined with plastic, I just wiped it right out! Also I got caught in a torrential downpour on Tuesday that left me completely soaked (still mad), and it held up very well- everything inside was dry, and it didn’t have water stains or become misshapen.

I’m really happy with my tote- not only does it do its job well, but it’s also adorable! If you’re looking for a practical yet personalized tote, head over to Marley Lilly and check out the Essential Tote and more!

Trending Tuesday- Flash-Lens Sunglasses

Hey Cats!

Happy Tuesday! I hope everyone’s week is off to a great start- I know mine is! There are quite a few new opportunities for the blog, and I’m excited to share them all with you. But we’ll both have to be patient!

I’m sure you’ve all seen Ray Ban Flash Lens sunglasses on nearly every blogger, and all around town. At first I wasn’t sure how I felt about them, but I’ve decided that I love the statement that the bright-colored lenses make. They’re great for summer, and one of my favorite trends right now.

sunglasses

I had planned on purchasing a pair of Ray Bans, but then I had to have a reality check. First of all, they’re expensive. I get that they’re high-quality, but I have a hard time spending a lot of money on something trendy. Also, I’m not the best with sunglasses. I tend to lose them in the lake, sit on them, or otherwise maim them to the point where they’re unwearable, so I typically don’t spend a lot on sunglasses. I decided to try and find a less expensive pair instead- and I did!

photo (84)

I found these little cuties at Charming Charlie for under $10, and I had to have them. They still have the aviator shape and the bright-colored, attention-catching lenses that I was looking for. I wear these every day with everything- to the lake, on my way to work, to the gym- you name it. This is a perfect example of single-girl style on a college-girl budget-I was able to try this trend and still have money left over!

What do you think about flash-lens sunglasses? Let me know!

Monday’s Musings

Hey Cats!

Guess who’s back? Monday. Yay for another week of work, school, or whatever else! I’m looking forward to the end of this week (per usual), because I’m going to visit my friend Ashley in Houston. Yay for shopping and bestie time!

I found this quote a few weeks ago and had to share!

blessed quote

Sometimes I get so caught up in my everyday life and the stresses it brings that I forget how truly blessed I am. I may get tired of my classes, but I have the opportunity to attend one of the best universities in the state. I may not want to wake up for work in the morning, but I have a job. I may be annoyed when I have to cook because I’ve spent all my “eating-out” money for the week, but at least I have food. In addition to all of that, I have a family and friends that love me, my health, and most importantly, a Savior that loves me and died for me. Sometimes a little perspective and a reminder to count your blessings can work wonders!

Friday’s Five

Hey Cats!

WOOHOO it’s the weekend. I’m so excited to not be travelling anywhere and being able to sleep in today! Don’t get me wrong, I’ve had some great adventures lately (and more coming up!), but sometimes it’s just nice to stay home and clean up your room that looks as if it’s been hit by an atomic bomb. Here’s what I’m loving this week:

1.

wistful.pink.earrings

Hosting my first ever giveaway from The Beautiful Fools! It’s something I’ve always wanted to do on the blog, so I’ve been really excited about it! Also, there’s still time to enter, so you should do that here. Immediately.

2.

I received a package from eShakti this week that I’m looking forward to styling. Stay tuned!

3.

graycat

This cat because it’s adorable and we all need a little more meow in our lives.

4.  Green smoothies. There’s not photo of this because I drank it all before I thought about it. But I got one this morning after I went to the gym and it was flawless.

5.

Nordstrom-Anniversary-Sale-

The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale starts the 18th for those of us who aren’t card-holders (“commoners” as my friend Ashley called me). There’s not a Nordstrom in College Station, so obviously I’m going to Houston that weekend to see the same Ashley mentioned above and shop.
