Monday’s Musings

Hey Cats!

Another week closer to summer! Actually, that’s not really too exciting for me, as I have yet to figure out what I’m doing this summer- eek! Hopefully I can figure that out in the next couple of weeks.

Today’s quote actually goes along quite well with that anxiety of not knowing what to do…

DVF quote

I have been in a bit of a tizzy lately because I feel like everyone has plans for graduation except for me. People are either getting married, going to medical school, or know exactly what job they want to have, and I feel like I’m way behind because I have none of those things. However, this quote is a great reminder that there are many people who don’t know what they want to do, and it’s okay. I mean, Diane Von Furstenberg said it, and she turned out just fine! This week, I’m going to try and focus on the type of woman I want to be- kind, caring, intelligent, and successful (to name just a few)- rather than what job I’ll get after I graduate. That will all fall into place!

That’s all for meow!

Friday’s Five

Hey Cats!

As I mentioned earlier this week, I’ve decided to add a few new features to the blog. One is Monday Musings, and the other is Friday’s Five. Now, I know that basically every blogger does Friday’s Five, but I think it’s a great way to share what I’ve been up to during the week aside from blogging, and to share little things I’ve come across that might not be able to stand alone as a single blog post. So here’s this week’s- enjoy!

1. This past weekend, my roommate Trina and I went to see Bring It On: The Musical on campus, and it was to die for. It was basically all of my unrealized childhood dreams (being cheer captain and a Broadway star) rolled into two hours. The acting and singing was phenomenal, and the stunts were everything. If it’s coming to a city near you, you definitely don’t want to miss it!

2. Next is this hilarious video of a girl screaming “Do You Want to Build A Snowman” while getting a splinter removed. I found it on Buzzfeed, where all good humor comes from, while I was supposed to be writing a paper- this is totally better. I honestly probably shouldn’t laugh at this, but I can’t help it. I watched it about three times in a row and was rolling on the floor in laughter, probably because I identify with this child and her dramatics.

3. My bestie Ashley and I have been dying to try out Wafology, a new food truck in the BCS. We finally went on “Waffle Wednesday”, and it was just divine. We both had the chicken & waffle sandwich with maple aioli sauce, and we agreed that it was the best thing we’d ever eaten. I also love how it was folded up like a little waffle taco- tacos are one of my main food groups.  They have many other delicious menu items, and it’s  my goal to try them all. If you’re in the Bryan/College Station area, FIND THEM. They post their location on Twitter and Facebook daily!

4. Last night my sorority had a mixer on Mount Aggie, a turf-covered “mountain” on campus, with a men’s organization. My roommate Trina and I went, and we had all the fun. All of it. We sled down it a couple of times by ourselves, but mostly together. We had a major crash at one point, but no injuries! Obviously, we took multiple selfies and videos as we descended, which may or may not have caused a few wrecks…oops!

5. I came across these monogrammed Jack Rogers sandals a few days ago, and I’m obsessed. If we’re being honest, I didn’t really get the hype over these shoes for the longest time- they kind of reminded me of something I would’ve worn at age five when my mother still dressed me. But, my feelings have recently changed, and they’re definitely on my to-buy list for the summer! I mean, they have a monogram, so I obviously #needit.

DIY-Arm Knitted Infinity Scarf

Hey Cats!

Happy Thursday! I hope everyone has had a great week! I wanted to share a project I completed over Spring Break- my arm-knitted infinity scarf! As you may or may not know, I enjoy other needle crafts such as knitting and crocheting (wow, that sentence makes me sound like I’m 80- I’m a normal 21-year old, promise!), and I’ve been very intrigued by arm-knitting.

Over Spring Break, my parents and I went to Hot Springs, Arkansas, and wandered into a cute little knitting shop downtown. I personally love “yarn boutiques”, because they are so cozy, have a unique selection of yarn, and there’s always a sweet lady who loves to talk about knitting. This one, of course, had all of those things, and while I loved the selection of fibers, I was enamored by the first project the sales lady showed me- the arm-knitted infinity scarf. She said you could just find a video on YouTube, and complete the project in 30 minutes to an hour- Sold! I chose a medium-brown natural wool and went on my merry way.

I found a link to a video on Pinterest, and completed the scarf as soon as I got home! However, it took me a couple of hours, only because I got my yarn tangled into a giant mess.

Arm-knitting is incredibly simple, you don’t need any knitting experience- just your arms!

Here’s what you’ll need:

photo (63)

-1 large skein of very chunky yarn. I used this 100% wool, but you could use anything you’d like

-Two arms

-One hour

Here’s what you do:

I found these great instructions-complete with a video from Simply Maggie on Pinterest. There are also PDF instructions you can download, if that’s what you prefer. I feel like I’m cheating sending y’all to a video, but I’m sure Maggie explains it much better than I could!

I simply followed her instructions, casting on 12 stitches and knitting until I was almost out of yarn. Then, instead of using a needle to sew the ends together, I used my fingers to weave the ends together, making sure not to pull too tight.

Here’s what mine looks like: (Also, I apologize for the selfies/weird yellow lighting. My roommates were sleeping so I had to improvise.) You can’t really see them, but I’m wearing my fave Kendra Scott Danielle Earrings in Ivory Pearl– a great, neutral compliment to this scarf!

A few tips:

-Even if your yarn is chunky, hold two strands together. I did, and mine still has fairly large holes!

-Untangle your yarn BEFORE you begin- this will save you lots of stress.

I am OBSESSED with this scarf. The color is a great neutral, it’s warm and fuzzy, and of course, since it’s an infinity scarf I can just throw it on and run out the door! My only complaint is that I waited until it was warm outside to make it!

I hope everyone has an excellent Thursday- the weekend is ALMOST here!

Wednesday Pins-Day

Hey Cats!

I hope everyone is having a great week! I had a test and a paper due yesterday, so I’m relieved to have those out of the way. As usual, I’ve been pinning, and I found a few things I need to share with you all- enjoy!

Also, don’t forget to follow me on Pinterest for more great ideas!

Kate Spade pillow

First are instructions to make this bow pillow as seen in the Kate Spade store from The College Prepster. Isn’t this the cutest? I think I may have to make a few to spruce up my room!

Strata Stripe Dress

Next is this V-Neck Tunic Dress from Kate Spade Saturday in one of their new summer prints, Strata Stripe. I’m absolutely obsessed with this print, and I’ve already got my eye on quite a few pieces that would be perfect for spring and summer!

parm ranch chicken

This Ranch Parmesan chicken recipe from KitchMe is just delicious. I made it for dinner last week, and it’s a new favorite for sure. The ranch dressing adds so much more flavor than dipping the chicken in an egg mixture, which I loved. You should definitely try it some time this week!

cheese

Last is this, because it’s hilarious and completely true. Cheese is a food group of its own in my opinion.

What have you been pinning lately?

Rainy Sunday

Hey Cats!

As I said yesterday, it’s been forever since I posted, and it’s been even longer since I’ve done an outfit post- I can’t even remember the last one! I wore this to church on Sunday, and I loved it so I had to share!

Also, funny story: I got dressed in the dark on Sunday. I woke up and the electricity was off in my room, but not my bathroom or anywhere else- puzzling. Luckily I could fix my hair and see to do my makeup, but I couldn’t really see exactly what my outfit looked like. Turns out it was just a flipped breaker, but it was a strange Sunday morning.

It was also chilly, and I could hear the wind howling with a vengeance, so I knew I still couldn’t wear one of my cute spring dresses. But I like this just as well!

image (61)

Once I knew it would be cold, I decided to wear my black skirt from Target (no longer available, but I like this option!) with tights one more time before warm weather is here to stay. I paired it with my trusty JCrew chambray and one of my favorite statement necklaces from Northgate Vintage (which is no longer available, but check out Benevolent Jewels for some super cute options- and use the promo code “KCODE20” for 20% off!) for a pop of spring color. While I was doing my makeup, I was thinking that I would rather die than wear heels, so I decided to see how my Hunter Boots looked, since it was raining, and I loved it! It’s casual and comfortable, but still appropriate.

photo (62)

What do you think about wellies with dressier ensembles? It’s definitely a risk, but with the right balance of casual and dressy, it can work out really well!

Monday Musings

Hey Cats!

It’s been forever since I’ve posted- whoops! I’ve had tests during the week, retreats on the weekends, and Spring Break, which didn’t prove as productive for the blog as I had hoped. But I’m back, with some new ideas and inspiration! The first new idea is today’s feature, “Monday Musings”. I’ve had this idea for a while, but I haven’t really gotten around to it until now. My goal for Monday Musings is to post a quote with a short commentary, just to give my readers a little inspiration and encouragement, and to add some variety! Let me know what you think!

Quote1

I came across this quote on Pinterest a few weeks ago, and I love it so much. It’s applicable to many different things in my life right now: hard finance tests, boys, summer jobs, future plans, etc. I’m a big worrier, so this has reminded me to pray for peace (no matter what) in times when I’m unsure of what’s to come. This week I have a few pending opportunities with jobs and summer plans, so it’s my goal to remember that God’s plan is the best, and to pray for peace no matter my circumstances.
