Packing List: Beach Trip

Hey Cats!

Happy Monday! I hope everyone had a great weekend! I went to the pool twice, slept in, got sub-par pedicures with my besties, and  bought the cutest flamingo tee, so I would say it was a success. But today it’s back to work!

IMG_1736

In a few weeks, I’m headed to Florida on vacation with two of my friends, and I’m beside myself with excitement! This is my first big trip with just my friends, so it should be tons of fun! Not to mention I love the beach. I’ve had months to procure the perfect pieces to stuff into my suitcase, and I’ve honestly probably spent way too much money. But whatever. Here’s what will be in my bag:

SWIM:

 FullSizeRender (4)

I tried so hard to find a new swimsuit for this trip, but I couldn’t find anything I liked. But I have plenty of suits from past summers that I still love, so it’s okay! I’m bringing my monogrammed bandeau from Marley Lilly paired with coral bottoms, which is probably my favorite swimsuit ever. I’m also bringing a one piece, since one pieces are in right now. I’ve had this one since high school so obviously it’s no longer available, but I’m loving this palm print, this simple blue, and this bright Mara Hoffman suit! My third suit is from Old Navy and also is no longer available, but this one is really similar!

BEACH ACCESSORIES

IMG_1495

I bought this monogrammed floppy hat for two reasons: my Kentucky Derby-themed Junior League party this week and the beach. They have so many fun colors, but I chose blue because it matches my Lilly dress I’m wearing to the event (insert hair flip emoji). It also matches my cover-up! I’m loving the simple white with blue stitching! I bought it at Forever 21, but unfortunately can’t find it online (I did see one in the store this weekend!), but I’m loving this similar option, this similar color scheme, or this colorful caftan!

CASUAL OUTFITS

FullSizeRender (5)

We’re planning on going to do lots of fun things like snorkeling and riding jet skis, so honestly I will probably be wearing Norts and a tee for those activities. But I will need a few cute outfits, of course! I’m bringing my new flamingo tee paired with my favorite boyfriend shorts, which will be perfect for exploring! I’m also bringing my leopard shorts and black tank, which will be great for a casual dinner. Of course, I can’t forget this integral part of my romper collection. It’s Lilly for Target (from the kid’s section), but I love this Lilly Pulitzer option, this solid blue, and this cute print!

GOING OUT ATTIRE

image1 (2)

I don’t anticipate going out too much, except for fancy dinner one night. But we’re still three weeks out and I cannot decide for the life of me what outfit to bring! It’s a stressor for me right now. I’m loving this striped romper (similar options here, here, and here) and nude heel combo, but I’m also loving the below options!

FullSizeRender (7)

I bought this black romper a few months back and I’m in love! I think it’s definitely going to be a staple this summer. There’s also my bird dress that I’m obsessed with and am always looking for excuses to wear. P.S., if birds aren’t your thing but you still want to wear something out of the box, try this dress! It’s on my “to buy” list for sure.

So that’s it! Those are the only pieces I’m taking to the beach. And if you believe that, you obviously don’t know me. What are your beach essentials? Let me know!

In My Closet- Striped T-Shirt Dress

Hey Cats!

Happy Hump Day! I’m writing this while watching this week’s RHONY, where Heather loses her mind because she woke up with unattended strange guys in their vacation home thanks to Ramona and Luann’s antics. And I’m having mild PTSD because unfortunately, I was in Heather’s shoes more times than I wanted to be in college. But I digress.

As you may know, “In My Closet” is a series in which I highlight an article of clothing that I personally own that I feel is a staple in the wardrobe of a fashion-forward young woman. Today, I’ve chosen something that you have probably already seen on my Instagram, but I love it so much that I wanted to share it again!

instagram-oldnavy dress

This striped swing dress from Old Navy was a wonderful addition to my closet last spring! It’s so comfortable, versatile, and classic. It’s the easiest outfit ever, you just throw it on and go! The stripes are a basic print that look great alone, but can also be spruced up with fun accessories. I love wearing mine with a statement necklace and sandals, as pictured above, with a bright colored scarf and fun earrings, and I’m looking forward to trying it out with my brown booties and a chunky scarf in the fall! Also, the stretchy t-shirt material makes it easy to wear all day and not be annoyed or uncomfortable. When I bought this, I didn’t think it would end up being such a great investment (ps, it was under $20, so it was also a steal!), but I could wear it every day in a million different ways. Add a simple, striped dress to your single girl closet and see what you can do with it!

In My Closet- Black Jeans

Hey Cats!

I hope everyone is having a great week so far! It’s Thursday…almost there!

Today I’m doing an “In My Closet” post, which is a post in which I share an article of clothing that I personally own that I feel is a staple in the wardrobe of a fashion-forward young woman. Today, I chose black jeans, because I recently bought a pair and I’m mildly obsessed.

old navy black jeans

I bought these Rockstar Super Skinny jeans from Old Navy a few weeks ago on an impulse, and it was the best decision I’ve ever made. For a long time I said I would never wear black jeans, because whenever I thought “black jeans”, I thought of high-waisted, slightly faded 90’s black jeans, and it just really freaked me out. However, since I’ve noticed my style taking a slightly edgier turn, and since I wear jeans to work nearly every day, I decided that maybe it was time for black jeans to claim a spot in my closet. Much to my surprise, they have become my new best friends. If I could wear them everyday, I totally would. They instantly dress up a casual outfit for work, dinner, going out, or going to church. I like to pair them with a silk top or my trusty chambray and flats for a comfortable work look, a fancy top and bold jewelry for dinner or church, or a graphic tee and booties for going out. They’re so versatile and truly a necessary addition to your single-girl closet.

What’s your favorite way to wear black jeans? Let me know!

Totes Perfect.

Hey Cats!

As I may have mentioned, I’m getting a taste of “big city life” this summer, in the sense that I have a long walk and a bus ride to get to work every morning. At first, I dreaded the trek, but now it’s just part of my everyday routine. The only problem was carrying all of my possessions- my lunch, heels, water bottle, and everything else. It took me a long time to decide which tote bag I wanted, but once I finally did, it changed my life. Well, my commute at least.

photo (85)

I chose the Essential Tote from Marley Lilly in navy with a gray monogram. It arrived about an hour before I left for the lake for July 4th, which was a good way to break it in! It’s a great size for a lake tote, which is a bonus since I bought it for work. Every day, I’ll fill it with my lunchbox, my heels (and flats after I change on the bus), my Camelbak, an umbrella if necessary, and as of late, my textbook, notebook, and pencil pouch so I can work on my class on the bus. There’s still room if I ever decide to pack extras, such as gym clothes and shoes, which is a plus.

It’s also incredibly durable. I’ve already spilled water in it (oops), and since it’s lined with plastic, I just wiped it right out! Also I got caught in a torrential downpour on Tuesday that left me completely soaked (still mad), and it held up very well- everything inside was dry, and it didn’t have water stains or become misshapen.

I’m really happy with my tote- not only does it do its job well, but it’s also adorable! If you’re looking for a practical yet personalized tote, head over to Marley Lilly and check out the Essential Tote and more!

Trending Tuesday- Flash-Lens Sunglasses

Hey Cats!

Happy Tuesday! I hope everyone’s week is off to a great start- I know mine is! There are quite a few new opportunities for the blog, and I’m excited to share them all with you. But we’ll both have to be patient!

I’m sure you’ve all seen Ray Ban Flash Lens sunglasses on nearly every blogger, and all around town. At first I wasn’t sure how I felt about them, but I’ve decided that I love the statement that the bright-colored lenses make. They’re great for summer, and one of my favorite trends right now.

sunglasses

I had planned on purchasing a pair of Ray Bans, but then I had to have a reality check. First of all, they’re expensive. I get that they’re high-quality, but I have a hard time spending a lot of money on something trendy. Also, I’m not the best with sunglasses. I tend to lose them in the lake, sit on them, or otherwise maim them to the point where they’re unwearable, so I typically don’t spend a lot on sunglasses. I decided to try and find a less expensive pair instead- and I did!

photo (84)

I found these little cuties at Charming Charlie for under $10, and I had to have them. They still have the aviator shape and the bright-colored, attention-catching lenses that I was looking for. I wear these every day with everything- to the lake, on my way to work, to the gym- you name it. This is a perfect example of single-girl style on a college-girl budget-I was able to try this trend and still have money left over!

What do you think about flash-lens sunglasses? Let me know!

Today, I’m linking up with Zelle from A Southern Style, Kristina from Medicine & Manicures, Katie from Champagne & Suitcases, and Amanda from As the Wine Cork Turns for #TrendingTuesday- head over and see what’s trendy this Tuesday!

Jewelry- My Essential 5

Hey Cats!

Happy Thursday! I’m so excited, because not only am I going home this weekend, but tonight I’m going to see the Backstreet Boys and Avril Lavigne! The summer after I graduated from high school, I went to see the Backstreet Boys when they toured with NKOTB with my friends Kinsey and Emma, and it was everything. I can’t wait to see my boys again- and Avril Lavigne is a special treat so I can relive my brief fifth-grade punk bad girl phase (don’t ask).

It’s no secret that I love my jewelry, and I love to mix it up every day depending on what I’m wearing. I shared my everyday jewelry a few months ago, but the other day I was thinking, “If I could only have five pieces of jewelry, what would they be?” If that ever happens I don’t know what I’ll do with myself, but it was definitely interesting to think about. It took me a while to come up with only five things I couldn’t part with- some were obvious, but some took a little more thought. Here’s what I came up with!

photo (77)

First are my pearls. Technically this is two pieces, but it’s my hypothetical situation so I get to make the rules. Pearl earrings and a necklace are typically thought of as a set, so it still counts as just one. I got my pearls the Christmas after I turned 18- it’s a tradition in my family. I love my pearls because they’re a classic, and a perfect, Southern addition to nearly any ensemble.

watch

Next is my Michael Kors watch. I wear this every day, whether I’m wearing a dress or just Nike shorts and a tee shirt. It’s a classic piece, and it’s a staple in my jewelry box- I couldn’t go without it!

cross necklace black

Next is my dainty, sideways cross necklace. I love this because it’s a great reminder of my faith, and also because it’s so dainty. It can stand alone or be layered- very versatile!

cat earrings

I also chose my favorite cat earrings. It’s no secret that I love kitties, and I actually have quite the collection of cat-themed jewelry. What I love about these studs is that they’re whimsical yet practical. They’re a fun shape, but a classic color with a little sparkle. I typically wear these when I’m wanting something simple.

photo (76)

Last, I chose my Aggie ring. Duh. It’s the most valuable piece of jewelry I own, mostly because it cost me 90 hours of studying, sweat, and tears. It represents one of my greatest accomplishments and it’s something I’m very proud of. I also think that it’s beautiful- shiny gold with intricate detailing and a diamond in the center. Out of all the jewelry I own, this is definitely my favorite.

What are your essential 5? Let me know!

In My Closet- The Everyday Handbag

Hey Cats!

Happy Thursday! It’s been a short week- yay! I’m definitely looking forward to the weekend, and I get to see my family on Sunday, so that’s exciting!

“In My Closet”  is a series where I feature a piece that I personally own that I believe is a staple in the wardrobe of a fashion-forward young woman. Today, we’re talking purses. I used to be a huge purse girl, but since I’ve been in college that’s changed- I’ve been carrying the same one since my freshman year!  I have an extensive collection of handbags at my parents’ house, from my Dooney & Bourke I got when I turned thirteen (my first “It Bag”), to the Juicy Couture monstrosity I saved months of babysitting money to buy, to the various other colorful totes I carried in high school. However these days I tend to carry the same bag every single day, unless I’m feeling crazy or going out or to a football game, or anywhere where it would be too fussy to carry a large handbag.

longchamp

I bought this Longchamp Small Le Pliage bag in Slate with my graduation money after I graduated from high school, and I’ve carried it ever since. It was (and still kind of is) a “college girl” bag, and I was so excited about it. I love the classic shape and color; although it was a big trend at the time, it’s actually quite a timeless addition to my closet. Another thing I love about this bag is that it’s incredibly durable. I’ve carried this bag across campus through the rain, filled it to the brim, dropped it in the grass, and (gasp) set it on the ground countless times. It’s never ripped, and aside from a few stains on the bottom and a little wear on the straps, it still looks pretty good. Also, I can fit literally everything I need inside. I always have a small first aid kit, my wallet, a small notepad, and tons of other crap really important things like receipts and grocery lists. In fact, just last week I shoved an umbrella and a pair of heels inside for my ‘commute’ to work. It’s like my mom bag, except I’m definitely not a mom. It’s my single-girl bag. Honestly, I’ll probably be carrying this until it falls apart. It’s definitely no small purchase, but Lois Longchamp (yes, I named her) has been with me for three years now, and it doesn’t look like she’s giving up anytime soon. Every girl needs a dependable everyday handbag in her closet- I would definitely suggest a Longchamp, but if that’s not your style, just be sure it’s a neutral that blends well with anything, is durable, and is a bottomless pit for all your everyday necessities.

In My Closet- Neutral Heel Collection

Hey Cats!

It’s almost the weekend! I forgot how exciting the weekend is when you’re working- I’m loving my job, but it will be nice to have a break and maybe get some of that laundry done that’s piling up. It’s also Memorial Day weekend, so we get an extra day! Had I not just returned to College Station, I would go home to be with my family, but I’m just planning on staying here and relaxing (and probably watching Bravo until I become Heather Thomson- HOLLA). And blogging, of course.

“In My Closet”  is a series where I feature a piece (or four, in this case) that I personally own that I believe is a staple in the wardrobe of a fashion-forward young woman. Today, I’m highlighting my staple heels- black and nude, each in two different styles.

photo (74)

Now, this lineup of shoes might seem a bit excessive to some, and you know what? Maybe it is. But don’t you worry, I can definitely justify having two pairs of shoes in the same color. A large shoe family is a happy shoe family. Let’s start with the black heels.

image (71)

First are these Jessica Simpson platform pumps. I’ve had these ever since my sophomore year of college, and I absolutely love them. They’re a classic style, but also very tall and sassy (yet surprisingly easy to walk in). The rounded toe makes them an obvious choice for winter, and sometimes I feel that the matte leather simply looks better than the patent- but it depends on what I’m wearing, and what kind of mood I’m in. Also, they are the only heels I have that are tall enough to wear with a certain pair of dress pants, so sometimes I choose these out of necessity- I wouldn’t want to be tripping on my own pants!

image (70)

Next are these Jessica Simpson patent peep-toe heels. I got these for my cousin’s wedding, because she wanted us to have patent heels, and everyone else had peep-toe, so I obviously couldn’t be the odd bridesmaid out! I felt bad asking my mom for another pair of black heels, so I suggested we get a pair from Payless or Target, and she responded, “I don’t buy cheap shoes.” So that’s worked out well for me! I like the shorter height of these heels, they’re a more casual option, and more practical for everyday wear. If I wear heels to work (rare), I’ll wear these (or their nude twins), and my feet aren’t dying by the end of the day. As with the platform pumps, there are certain ensembles I feel simply look better with these shoes than the others- it just depends, and it’s always nice to have options!

image (69)

These Steve Madden pointed-toe pumps are basically my first true love. I searched for nude pumps that complimented my skin tone for YEARS before I came across these- I had finally found my sole mate. I love the matte leather and the pointed toe, it’s a very chic and timeless style. I usually wear these with more tailored, formal dresses, or black dress pants. They’re the Audrey Hepburn of my shoe family, and I will cherish them forever.

image (68)

Yes, these are the same Jessica Simpson pumps I have in black. I had them in pewter once, but I would wear them from my dorm to the parking garage my freshman year and destroyed the soles, so they’re no more. But there’s a reason I’ve had three pairs of these- they’re a great shoe, and a staple in my wardrobe. I bought these shoes for my sister’s wedding (weddings have done great things for my shoe family…I need to be in another one soon…), as we were wearing nude heels, and pointed-toe pumps would not have looked good with a floor-length gown. Again, I love these because they’re more casual, and I typically wear them with flowy sundresses, or when I’m going to be standing a long time. Another perk to having the same shoe in two different colors- I can wear either one with my suit- black for winter and fall, nude for spring and summer!

It’s definitely nice to have so many options, but it’s not completely necessary. I would suggest at least one pair of black heels and one pair of nude heels, each in basic, not too trendy styles. One of the two will match everything, and if you get a good pair, they’ll last forever! Classic heels are a great way to add instant polish to any ensemble, and are a staple for your single girl closet.

New Boyfriend

Hey Cats!

I’m in love and I don’t care who knows!

No, not with a boy. I’ve finally found the perfect pair of denim shorts, and I can’t really get over it. Denim shorts have always been a touchy subject for me, I can never seem to find a pair that fits me how I want them to. They’re either a trashy level of too short or a mom level of too long, neither of which is flattering. So the other day when I was shopping with my mom, we wandered into Old Navy and saw that their shorts were on sale for $15, a great deal. My mom suggested that I try some on, and I did, expecting that they’d fit like everything else. I tried on a few pairs and was pleasantly surprised by The Boyfriend Cuffed Shorts.

boyfriendshorts

They sit right at the hips, and fit well, but still a little loose. I LOVE the length, and you can roll them down if you want! Also, I usually stay away from distressed denim, because I feel it makes the shorts/pants exclusively casual, but I actually really like the distressed details on these- it’s perfect for summer. I bought these last Saturday and I’ve already worn them twice, so it’s safe to say that I’m obsessed with my latest Boyfriend. (I’m probably having too much fun with this…whatever.) If you’re looking for a new pair of shorts, head over to Old Navy- they have a great selection and great prices!

In My Closet- Hunter Rainboots

Hey Cats!

I hope you are all staying warm out there! It snowed last night and this morning, and the University closed campus until 10 this morning- unfortunately my class is at 1:50. I guess I will just have to bundle up and brave the cold to go to Finance! If it’s still a little damp outside, I will definitely be wearing my Hunter wellies!

Today, I’m (finally) doing another “In My Closet” post, a series in which I share with you an article of clothing that I personally own that I feel is a staple in the wardrobe of a fashion-forward young woman. This time, I’m featuring my Hunter rainboots!

photo (59)

Now, I’m not saying you MUST have Hunter boots, because they’re definitely expensive, but a good pair of rain boots is definitely a must in your shoe closet, especially if you do a lot of walking! I got my boots for Christmas, and I am completely obsessed with them! They are extremely comfortable, and have a good, supportive sole, which is great since I’m usually walking long distances across campus when I wear them! I know that makes me sound like someone’s mom, but my old rain boots had a flat sole, and my feet hurt so bad when I wore them that I eventually stopped wearing them! They are also very warm- I actually prefer them to any of my other boots! I wear them when it’s not raining, and I’m not even sorry about it. I chose black because I wanted to be able to wear them with everything, and because I wanted them to be a classic I can wear forever. I love the polished look of these boots, and the outfits I have put together to wear with them.

Enough about my boots, here’s why you need a good pair of galoshes: First of all, there’s nothing worse than soaked socks on a rainy day. For those of you walking across college campuses or big cities, you should definitely invest in a pair! My campus literally floods when it rains, so they’re great for trudging through puddles and staying dry! While there are many patterned options, I love my solid pair. They go with everything, and I don’t have to worry about wearing too many patterns and colors and looking like I’m a five-year-old playing dress up. They’re also great for playing in the snow (I’m assuming this- I’m from Texas, it never snows.) and a variety of other outdoor adventures!

If you don’t already have a pair of wonderful wellies, I would definitely suggest you add them to your single girl closet- you never know when you’ll need them!
