Friday’s Few

Hey Cats!

Happy Friday! This short week flew by, which is exactly what I was hoping for! It was also a busy week, but a good one! P.S., can you believe it’s already June? I feel like it was just New Year’s! Also, I’ve declared June a “no-spend” month for me. I went a little crazy on the shopping this past month, and I need to tone it down. There are things in my closet that I bought months ago and still haven’t worn, if that tells you anything. I’ve decided that I’m just going to have to get creative with what I’ve already got in my closet (which is plenty). Plus, it’s summer, so I can re-discover all of my tanks and shorts! At least that’s what I’m telling myself. But it’s not going to be easy (those flash sale emails get me every time. I am a sucker.). So pray for me. For serious.

But anyways, here’s what I’m loving this week:

1.Charming Charlie

image1 (3)

Earlier this week, I went shopping with a friend and we wandered into Charming Charlie. And yes, this was May 31st, the day before the dreaded spending fast began. My friend Catherine that was with me has decided to also participate in a no-spend month! Anyways. Charming Charlie was having an amazing sale (75% off all clearance!!), so I got 4 great pieces of jewelry for just under $9! I think my favorite find was this pair of Lola Beaded Tassel Earrings. I’ve been wanting a pair of Lisi Lerch tassel earrings for years, but I couldn’t justify the price tag. The Charming Charlie dupes are marked as just $6.99 online, which is already a steal, but with my 75% off, I got them for $2. TWO DOLLARS. That’s less than a Starbucks. Clearly I am still beside myself about this. And once my shopping ban is lifted, I will be back. I’m planning on wearing these with my new top from Lyon + Post for my Friday night activities! So summer and so cute. P.S., with my $30 credit, this top was only $20! Sign up here to get your own $30 Lyon + Post credit!

2. Quinoa Salad Recipe

Pineapple-Chicken-Quinoa-Salad

I came across this recipe for Sweet Pineapple Chicken Quinoa Salad from Layers of Happiness on Pinterest! As you know, I love quinoa, and am always trying to find ways to incorporate it into my diet. This looks like a really yummy summer lunch option, and I can’t wait to give it a try!

3. Embracing my curly hair

Ever since I started fixing my own hair, I have flat-ironed it into submission, refusing to wear it natural. Over the years, I think my hair has gone from wavy to actually curly, but I never left the house without fixing it, except for a few times in college. When I went to the beach, I decided to just let my hair run free, and I loved it! I decided to see if this would work on a daily basis. I bought the Quenching Coconut Curls shampoo and conditioner by OGX to try and enhance my curls, then added the styling milk to tame the frizz! I’ve worn my hair curly to work ever since I returned from vacation, and I have no plans of stopping! It’s so nice not to have to fix my hair every morning, and I really love how it looks! So big. Just wondering how I lived so many years without taking full advantage of my lion’s mane.

4. GIF of the week

SH-gif

If you haven’t been watching Real Housewives of Not Houston Dallas, you have been missing out on the best way to waste your time. Stephanie is probably my favorite, because she cries when people are mean to her, which I feel is the most normal response. Or would be my response. Bless her heart.

That’s all for meow! Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Instagram Round-Up

Hey Cats!

I’m back! It’s been about 3 months since I’ve blogged. What? I just got so busy with work and life that Sweet Cats! was pushed past the back burner and basically off the stove altogether. It made me sad, and I’ve been dying to get back to blogging, but I just haven’t had the time. Until now, when I got sicky and had to stay home for a few days! I’m not promising regular posts right now, but maybe a few!

It has been way longer than I thought since I last did an Instagram Round-Up…the last one was in July! Yikes! So some of these may be a little (okay a lot) out of season (looking at you, monogrammed bathing suit), but whatever. Just put it on your list for the summer, it’s never too early for that! Don’t forget to follow along on the Blogstagram (@sweetcatsblog) to see my most recent posts!

jcrew-skirt-outfit

I’m obsessed with this JCrew Factory skirt! It was great during the summer with my white swiss dot tank, and will be great in the fall with tights and riding boots! Here, I paired it with my JCrew Factory chambray, watch, Marley Lilly tassel bracelet (c/o), and a statement necklace (similar).  This is a great polished look for work or church!

earrings
Beautiful earrings for pierced ears. I hope you caught that reference to one of my favorite books as a child! I had been searching high and low for a tiny “K” earring for my third hole. I finally found one at Nordstrom, and it has become a permanent fixture on my earlobe. I wore my Kendra Scott Alexandra earrings in Chalcedony, and I thought it was a great pair!

monogram-swim

Okay, okay, I know it’s February. But this is one of my favorite Instas ever. I paired my Marley Lilly monogrammed bandeau top with some bright coral swim bottoms (similar), grabbed my shades, $5 infused water from Whole Foods (this was before I had really grasped the concept of budgeting), and a pool read, and headed to the pool for one of the two times I went this summer.

greased-lightining

Yaaaaas the Greased Lightening dress! I love this little frock so much that I gave it a name, as you do. They don’t have this print anymore, but they do have it in the blue marble print, which my sister has and I love! I also have it in pink, because it’s so comfy for work!

packing

I’m literally obsessed with my Vera Bradley duffel. It’s like a Mary Poppins bag, you can just keep stuffing things inside and it never seems to fill up. This particular trip was for my birthday (in August lolz), and I packed my trusty denim shorts from Old Navy and my favorite little bird dress from SheInside. Also, this fluffy pink bedding makes me feel like a princess, and that’s the best feeling ever.

lilly-dress

Holy Shift. This is my score from the Lilly After Party Sale, and I honestly didn’t get to wear it enough before fall rolled around. This dress is no longer available, but I’m loving this one! I like to go for a classic look with my Lilly, pairing it with nude heels, a string of pearls layered with my monogrammed necklace, and my scalloped monogrammed clutch, c/o Marley Lilly. So Southern I almost can’t even handle myself.

baublebar-jewels

I had my eye on both of these BaubleBar pieces for quite some time. I love love LOVE BaubleBar, but it’s honestly too expensive for me to buy on a regular basis. But! They have awesome sales! Pro Tip: sign up for their emails- then you’ll get all the info. They have at least one piece for under $30 (a lot of the time it’s even $10 or $15!) each week! I got an excellent deal on these EKG studs that I wear nearly every day and this #obsessed dainty bracelet. The bracelet isn’t available anymore, but they have plenty of other dainty options!

loft skirt This is my favorite fall outfit! It’s one of those that I have to limit myself on wearing, because I would wear it every day. This blanket skirt from Loft is a fun addition to my autumn wardrobe. I paired it with a long-sleeved solid black tee, tights, and riding boots. To add some sparkle, I wore my Kendra Scott Rayne necklace in Pyrite (color bar only) and this fierce Gilded Leo Cuff by Baublebar (another Buried Bauble steal).

This was a big one! Fingers crossed that I will stay more on top of Instagram round-ups in the future.

Trending- Tassels

Hey Cats!

It’s Pre-Friday! AND it’s theSkimm‘s third birthday! Click on my fancy new button to your right, or the link in this post to Skimm with me every day!

But on to the main event. I’m usually not one to follow trends- I tend to go for more classic looks. However, I often break that rule when it comes to jewelry. Jewelry is one of the cheaper  things to add to your wardrobe, and most jewelry trends tend to last for a while. One of my favorite trends this summer is tassels! I started to love these last summer, but now I’m sure that they’re going to be around for a while, need it. Last summer was beaded tassels, but now there are embroidery thread tassels, fabric tassels, and so many more! Here are a few of my favorites:

Lisi-lerch

LAHHVE these Lisi Lerch tassel earrings. These are probably my all-time favorites, even though I have no idea where I would wear them. But how cute would these be with a hot pink romper and wedges for a fancy night out? Too cute.

tassel-bracelets

I’m also loving these bracelets from BaubleBar. They’re so summery and fun, and would make a great addition to your arm party!

nordstrom-necklaces

I’m also obsessed with these tassel and stone necklaces from Nordstrom. I love the natural stone with the pops of color from the thread tassels. These would be great layered with your everyday necklace to dress up a basic tank! Love it.

What’s your favorite jewelry trend this summer? Let me know!

Friday’s Five

Hey Cats!

I’m coming to you live from my home office! I technically have the day off, but I have to answer calls from home today. To be honest, I’m a little nervous, because I won’t have all my files or anything to help me. But I’m sure I’ll get through it! I was so excited to sleep later, and I went to bed around 11, which is pretty early for me. This short week has been wonderful, and I’m excited for the holiday weekend! But anyways, on to the good stuff. Here’s what I’ve been loving this week:

1. Golden

gold-paint

Considering yesterday’s post, you already know that I love gold spray paint. It’s a cheap, easy way to add a little glam to your home! This post from You Put It On has quite a few ideas to make your house a gold mine, from candles to magnets and things in-between! I definitely have a few extra projects in mind after reading this.

2. Tassels

bauble-bar-tassels

These Acid Tassel Drop earrings from Baublebar are to die for. I’ve been wanting some tassel earrings since last summer, but I haven’t worked up the bravery to buy any, simply because I’m not sure if I’ll actually wear them. However, this seems to be the summer of statement earrings, so it’s only a matter of time.

3. Brownies

BrownieFeature

These Slutty Brownies  from What’s Gaby Cooking (my latest food obsession) are calling my name. I am D Y I N G to make them, but obviously I can’t just make a pan of these for only me, because fat. The Bible study I’ve been going to is having a girl’s night, and I’m thinking about making them then. So stay tuned, because I will definitely be sharing them with you if I do.

4. A Cinderella Story

cinderella-story

I found this wonderful Buzzfeed quiz that tests your knowledge of A Cinderella Story, the ultimate 2000’s chick flick. I made a 100 (duh), and if you don’t, literally never talk to me again because we obviously have nothing in common.

5. Abby Lee Miller

anigif_enhanced-buzz-32052-1367531106-15

Walk into your 4th of July party like this, everyone will LOVE. IT. This is how to win friends and influence others. Trust.

Enjoy your weekend, trolls. Abby Lee and I sure will.

The Beautiful Fools Giveaway

Hey Cats!

I hope everyone had a great long weekend, and a Happy 4th! I went to the lake with a friend, and we had a great time riding jet skis, hanging out, and watching fireworks. I also had watermelon for the first time this summer- how/why did I wait so long?

Today instead of Monday’s Musings, I’m introducing the first ever giveaway on Sweet Cats!. I’ve wanted to do a giveaway for a long time, so I was really excited when Jenni of The Beautiful Little Fools blog contacted me about sponsoring a giveaway from her Etsy shop, The Beautiful Fools.

All of Jenni’s products are adorable, but my favorite are her earrings. Here are a few that I’ve got my eye on:

teal rose earrings

These Gallivant studs are the perfect addition to any fun summer outfit!

green and pink earrings

I also love these Ineffable studs. They would go great with a chambray and khaki shorts!

wistful.pink.earrings

My favorites are these Wistful pink and gold studs. I love that they look like they’ve been dipped in gold! They would go great with a cute summer dress.

There are so many more adorable earrings and accessories on The Beautiful Fools, so be sure to check it out! Also, enter using the Rafflecopter below to win a pair of earrings of your choice- yay! Jewelry- My Essential 5

Hey Cats!

Happy Thursday! I’m so excited, because not only am I going home this weekend, but tonight I’m going to see the Backstreet Boys and Avril Lavigne! The summer after I graduated from high school, I went to see the Backstreet Boys when they toured with NKOTB with my friends Kinsey and Emma, and it was everything. I can’t wait to see my boys again- and Avril Lavigne is a special treat so I can relive my brief fifth-grade punk bad girl phase (don’t ask).

It’s no secret that I love my jewelry, and I love to mix it up every day depending on what I’m wearing. I shared my everyday jewelry a few months ago, but the other day I was thinking, “If I could only have five pieces of jewelry, what would they be?” If that ever happens I don’t know what I’ll do with myself, but it was definitely interesting to think about. It took me a while to come up with only five things I couldn’t part with- some were obvious, but some took a little more thought. Here’s what I came up with!

photo (77)

First are my pearls. Technically this is two pieces, but it’s my hypothetical situation so I get to make the rules. Pearl earrings and a necklace are typically thought of as a set, so it still counts as just one. I got my pearls the Christmas after I turned 18- it’s a tradition in my family. I love my pearls because they’re a classic, and a perfect, Southern addition to nearly any ensemble.

watch

Next is my Michael Kors watch. I wear this every day, whether I’m wearing a dress or just Nike shorts and a tee shirt. It’s a classic piece, and it’s a staple in my jewelry box- I couldn’t go without it!

cross necklace black

Next is my dainty, sideways cross necklace. I love this because it’s a great reminder of my faith, and also because it’s so dainty. It can stand alone or be layered- very versatile!

cat earrings

I also chose my favorite cat earrings. It’s no secret that I love kitties, and I actually have quite the collection of cat-themed jewelry. What I love about these studs is that they’re whimsical yet practical. They’re a fun shape, but a classic color with a little sparkle. I typically wear these when I’m wanting something simple.

photo (76)

Last, I chose my Aggie ring. Duh. It’s the most valuable piece of jewelry I own, mostly because it cost me 90 hours of studying, sweat, and tears. It represents one of my greatest accomplishments and it’s something I’m very proud of. I also think that it’s beautiful- shiny gold with intricate detailing and a diamond in the center. Out of all the jewelry I own, this is definitely my favorite.

What are your essential 5? Let me know!

Wednesday Pins-Day

Hey Cats!

Happy Wednesday! I’m so excited for today, because this is the last day of finals, which means my roommates will be done with tests, and I won’t be by myself all day. It’s been nice to relax and not have any responsibilities for the past couple of days, but I’m ready to do fun summer activities with my friends! Since I’ve had all this free time, I’ve been doing plenty of pinning, and I’ve come across a few things I’d like to share with you all!

mirrored pots

First are these cute mirrored plant-holders. (Is that what they should be called? Help.) I love the modern look the mirrors give the plants, and it would work well in a variety of home decor styles. The website isn’t in English, but the photo itself is fairly self-explanatory. Just 5 square mirrors and some hot glue and you’ve got yourself a nice little craft. If I had a green thumb I would be more eager to go for this project, but I typically kill all things green within two weeks, so I might have to adapt this to work with something other than plants.

keyhole earrings

Next are these Keyhole Earrings from sonya renee. My roommate has a similar pair, and I’m mildly obsessed with them. They’re a perfect dainty touch to any outfit, and the classic shape ensures that they will be a staple in your jewelry collection for years to come. These are definitely on my purchase list for this summer!

brussel sprouts

Next is this delicious recipe for roasted brussels sprouts from Cakes Cottage. Brussels sprouts are my new favorite vegetable, and I make them multiple times a week, not a joke. I’ve sauteed them before and enjoyed them, but I think roasting is my favorite. I love how they get really crispy- SO GOOD. Instead of the garlic aioli sauce in this recipe, I typically dip them in a little Greek yogurt mixed with a splash of lime juice and a sprinkle of dill, and it’s everything. If you’re looking for a new side dish, give this one a try- you’ll love it!

george

Finally, I have this adorably hilarious meme of Prince George sassing it up on the Australian tour. I’m so sad that’s over, because between Kate’s ensembles and George’s shenanigans I was incredibly entertained.

Trends I’m Loving- Tassel Earrings

Hey Cats!

As you all know, accessories are my favorite part of any outfit, and I typically follow the rule “the bigger the better”. Not in a gaudy, excessive way, but more of a single statement piece kind of way. I love big earrings, and my latest favorites are tassel earrings. I’ve spotted them on a few of my favorite bloggers, specifically Kate from A Lone Star State of Southern and Caitlin from Southern Curls & Pearls.

Now, these are definitely a bold statement, and I’d probably have to work up some courage to wear them- but I’m definitely willing to give it a shot! They can be dressed up or down, and would function well as the single, star accessory of an ensemble. I’m picturing the gold pair with my black, flowy tank and high-waisted chevron shorts- perfect!

I’ve got my eye on these black beauties from Lisi Lerch– they’re also available in orange, turquoise, white, silver, and gold, but I think that the black pair would work best with my personal wardrobe.

tassel earrings

Another option is this lovely lime pair from Kate Spade Saturday. They are also available in black, white, and coral.

I will definitely be adding a pair of tassel earrings to my jewelry collection this summer- maybe in a few colors! What jewelry trends are you loving this season?

Today, I’m linking up with Zelle from A Southern Style, Kristina from Medicine & Manicures, Katie from Champagne & Suitcases, and Amanda from As the Wine Cork Turns for #TrendingTuesday- head over and see what’s trendy this Tuesday!

Floral Frocks with ModCloth

Hey Cats!

One of my favorite parts of spring is getting to wear fun dresses. After a few months of darker, heavier fabrics, wearing a spring dress in a bright pattern is a very freeing experience. I typically get a new dress for Easter each year, but this year I bought one for Ring Day instead. I had every intention of wearing it for Easter as well, but the more I looked at it, the more I decided it wasn’t “Easter-y” enough, so I wore one of my other favorite dresses.

If you’re looking for a new favorite dress this spring, you should definitely check out ModCloth! I was recently contacted by ModCloth to participate in their “Uniquely You” challenge for fashion bloggers. My job was to create an ensemble based around their gorgeous Bouquet of the Season dress, and I had so much fun!

modclothdress

I started (obviously) with the Bouquet of the Season Dress. First of all, I love the print and color scheme of this dress. That, coupled with the sweetheart strapless neckline makes it a beautiful, feminine choice. When I saw this dress, I knew I had to take the ensemble in a classic, timeless direction.

cardigan

Next, I added the Charter School Cardigan in Ivory. I really love how a cardigan looks over a strapless sundress, and it makes the outfit appropriate for many different occasions!

wedges

For footwear, I chose these lovely Every Day of the Chic wedges. They’re a bit more modern than the regular nude pump, but still a classic style.

earrings

bracelet

I decided to keep the jewelry simple and sweet. The Long-Awaited Earrings caught my eye because they’re not too fussy, but still dramatic enough to make a statement. I added the Knot a Moment Too Soon bangle to give the ensemble a dainty touch.

Modclothclutch

Finally, I chose the Garden Grandeur Clutch. I love the pop of turquoise this adds to the outfit, and how it gives this classic look a modern twist.

If you’re looking for a new dress this spring, head over to ModCloth! They have a great variety of floral frocks that will make you want to wear a dress almost every day of the week,

Wednesday Pins-Day

Hey Cats!

I hope everyone is having a great week! I have a test and a paper due tomorrow so I definitely have my work cut out for me! Also, today is the Liberal Arts Career Fair at school, so right after I post this I’m going to go on the hunt for an internship- wish me luck!

It’s been a while since I’ve done a Wednesday Pins-Day, and I’ve found some great things recently that I’d like to share. Here you go!

brown sugar chix

1. First is this delicious recipe for brown sugar spiced baked chicken from Spoonful. I made this for dinner Saturday night, and it was delicious! However, I accidentally put half a tablespoon of cumin instead of half of a teaspoon- oops! I scooped a lot out, but it was still a little on the strong side! We had this with quinoa, sauteed mushrooms, and baked parmesan squash- a healthy, delicious little feast!

2. Next is this cute valentine idea. I love giving valentines to my friends, and I love Burt’s Bees, so this would be something I would love to give and receive!

Love Me earrings

3. Next are these sassy earrings from Nordstrom. My favorite are definitely the “Over It” set, and I’m probably going to get them soon. They’re only $12 for the whole set!

Adorable Rag Doll Kitten

4. Last is this precious ragdoll kitten. I kind of have mild kitten fever right now- it’s like baby fever, but more appropriate for this stage in my life. Isn’t it SO CUTE? Need it.

What have you been pinning lately?
