Trends I’m Loving- Treat by Shutterfly

Hey Cats!

Last Tuesday of summer! Yikes. Obviously I’ll spend it in the best way, watching Pretty Little Liars and eating Ben & Jerry’s. Thanks to my roommates, I have a new favorite flavor- Milk & Cookies- it’s delicious! I’m obviously making the most of my senior year of college by eating ice cream and watching bad TV. Not sorry.

I digress.

I was recently introduced to treat.by Shutterfly, a new website with personalized gifts, cards, and more, and I fell in love with the site and everything it has to offer! I love sending little treats to my friend, especially with a personal touch.

Instead of a birthday card or something a bit more predictable, I decided to send a “welcome home” card to my best friend Kinsey. We’ve been best friends since our freshman year of high school, and we go to school across the state from each other. We usually are able to spend the summer together, but this year I stayed in College Station, and Kinsey went to Europe, stayed in Lubbock, and then traveled around Texas as a camp counselor. So needless to say, we weren’t able to see each other very much, and it was so sad- she’s like my sister! But I was able to write her letters while she was at camp, and she had her phone on the weekends, so we were sort of able to keep each other updated on life.

I had so much fun making this card for Kinsey- I loved picking out my favorite pictures, and even though picking out the layout was hard (so many choices!), I finally found the perfect one!

photo (92)

I love this quote because it sums up our friendship- we’re far apart, but we’re always friends! Also yes, that photo is from our high school cheer days- but it’s one of my favorites!

image (85)

I chose my favorite pictures of us for the inside of the card-you can add captions, but I chose not to. Also, these little squares are the perfect size for Instagram photos, which we have one million of.

image (86)I added a personal message on the other side, and on the back! It’s so easy to create special, personalized gifts and cards for your friends and family with >treat, so the next time you want to give something more than the generic grocery store card, head over to treat and make something just for them! It’s always in style to show your friends and family how much you love them!

I was actually able to see Kinsey this past weekend- we were both in Tyler for the last time before school started- and was able to give her the card in person at lunch. She loved it, and we had a great time eating barbecue and macaroons and catching up on what had happened in our lives this summer.

Monday’s Musings

Hey Cats!

Happy Monday! It’s the last week before school starts…what? I feel like summer has FLOWN by! I’m excited to get senior year started, but I always wish summer was a littttle longer.

I found this quote last week and I love it. It’s hilarious, but also very insightful.

force it qupte

It’s definitely true- you shouldn’t try to force anything to happen. If it’s meant to be, it will happen! Especially with the ponytails- those can be quite the struggle. This is something I’ve been struggling with lately, so that’s one reason I love this quote. It’s important to remember!

Friday’s Five

Hey Cats!

Happy Friday! I don’t know about you, but I’m so glad it’s the weekend. Both of my roommates were gone this week, so I was home by myself all week, and that got a little boring. But I’m at home for my mom’s birthday and a dentist appointment, so it will be nice to see my family for a few days! Here’s what I’m loving this week:

1.

double sided earrings

These double-sided earrings from My Jewel Candy. And basically everything from My Jewel Candy. They have cute, affordable jewelry for every taste- check it out!

2.

t-swift

Taylor Swift’s new song/video Shake It Off. I’m not even sorry about this one.

3.

kate spade purse

I finally got a big-girl purse! I bought this Kate Spade Raina bag during last week’s surprise sale and it came in on Tuesday! I love my Longchamp, but I’ve had it since before I went to college- it was time.

4. Being at home- my senior year (no.) starts in a little over a week, and I’m excited, but not super ready to get back into school mode. I’m glad I have a chance to relax and see my family before things get crazy!

5.

adult-cats

Saving the best for last, this ecard is exactly how I feel about life. I can kind of handle myself, but also not really. Who’s with me?

Trends I’m Loving- Home State Shapes

Hey Cats!

It’s Tuesday, and even though I’m not sure what I’m going watch tonight now that RHONY is done, it’s going to be a great day. I should be getting my package from the Kate Spade surprise sale today, and I’m beyond excited- yay!

One of my favorite trends lately is jewelry and clothing featuring the shape of your home state. I love Texas, being from Texas, and being a Texas Aggie, and I love that there are new ways for me to share that with everyone!

Here are a few of my favorite Lone Star State pieces:

texas necklace

My all-time-favorite Texas bauble is definitely a gold necklace with a heart, like this one from Etsy. I would put the heart over Aggieland, because it’s home, and I’ve had some of the best times here.

texas tank

Next, I’m loving this monogrammed Texas tank from Marley Lilly (minus the burnt orange. #bye). This would be so cute for a lake or pool day, or to wear to class or the gym in the August heat.

charming charlie earrings

I also love these Texas studs from Charming Charlie. They would be a great addition to a gameday outfit, or any casual ensemble.

What’s your favorite way to wear your home state? Let me know!

Monday’s Musings

Hey Cats!

Monday, Monday, Monday! I hope everyone had a great weekend- I did literally absolutely nothing besides lay on my couch and watch movies, and it was fantastic. I’ve had somewhere to go or someone coming to visit nearly every weekend this summer, so it was so nice to just chill at home for a few days.

This week, I chose a fun quote that I’ve been loving lately.

kate spade quote

I’ve always loved clothes and getting dressed up for any occasion- when I was in elementary school and junior high, I would plan my outfits for the first week or so of school about three weeks in advance. I still do that for work, but it’s usually on Sunday nights and now revolves around my laundry situation more than anything else. That being said, getting dressed is one of my favorite things to do. As a matter of fact, I recently shared this gem with my roommate: “He asked me what kind of music I listen to. I hate that question, ask me about something I actually want to talk about…ask me about my clothes, I could talk about that all day.” (Also file under: why I’m 22 and single).

But I digress.

I love seeing how an idea comes together in real life. I believe that style is a great form of self-expression, and it’s definitely one of my favorite ways to be creative. As I get older and understand how I want to come across to others (and have more money to invest in my closet), I’m beginning to understand exactly what my style is, and the best way to incorporate it into my existing wardrobe and lifestyle. For me, dressing up has always been a favorite pastime, and has gotten more fun as I’ve grown up. After all, now I get to wear my creations out in public!

Recipe- Cream Cheese Strawberry Breakfast Sliders

Hey Cats!

Happy Wednesday! I hope everyone is having a wonderful week. I’m not really sure why, but I’m extra tired this week- I’ve taken a nap after work both Monday and Tuesday- yikes! Definitely going to make sure that doesn’t happen today!

Remember how I said I acquired a sourdough baguette when I went home for my birthday? Well, I found another delicious use for it this weekend, this time for breakfast. I wanted to make French toast with it, but I failed to buy both eggs and milk this week, so that was out of the question. I took inventory of my fridge Saturday morning, and came up with a new fave- strawberry cream cheese sliders!

Here’s what you’ll need:

-1 sourdough baguette (not all of it, unless you’re feeding an army…or a family)

-Cream cheese (I like the whipped kind)

-strawberry jelly

-butter (I use Land o’ Lakes spreadable)

Here’s what you do:

1. First, slice the baguette. Mine was pretty skinny, so my slices were a bit thicker. I used a serrated knife to make it a little easier.

2. On one side of an even-numbered amount of bread slices, spread a layer of cream cheese.

3. On the same number of bread slices, spread strawberry jelly.

4. Sandwich one cream cheese slice and a jelly slice together- repeat until they’re all united in holy breakfast matrimony.

5. Spread a thin layer of butter on each side of each sandwich

6. Place three or four sandwiches at a time in a non-stick skillet over medium heat, and cook for 2-3 minutes on each side, or until brown and crispy.

7. Enjoy!

Monday’s Musings

Hey Cats!

I hope everyone had a great weekend! My sister came to visit this weekend, and we had a wonderful time. I was sad to see her leave, but I’m going home in a couple of weekends for my mom’s birthday, so I’ll see her soon!

I came across this quote recently, and I love it. It’s also linked to all she wrote notes, an Etsy shop with gorgeous hand-written notes and quotes.

quote5

I love all four of these reminders! It’s usually not hard for me to remember to work hard or love deep, but I can use some help remembering to stay sweet and trust that God’s got it under control. I may have to paint this on a canvas, that’s how much I love it! This week, I’m going to try and keep these four things in mind as I go throughout the day and encounter various obstacles that may challenge my work ethic, character, faith, and love for others.

That’s all for meow- have a great Monday!

Friday’s Five

Hey Cats!

Yay for Friday! My sister is coming to visit tomorrow, so I’m super excited for the weekend. I’m not sure what we’re going to do yet, but I know we’ll have a great time! This week has seemed super short to me, probably because I was home until Monday. Here’s what I’m loving this week:

1.

image (81)

Turning 22, obviously. I had a great weekend at home with my family filled with shopping, lake and pool time, and (too much of) the best birthday cake ever. Then when I got back to school on Monday, I went to dinner with some of my cute friends at Napa Flats, one of my favorite College Station restaurants, which is the picture above. At first I was a little sad to be turning 22…everyone makes such an ordeal about turning 21, and then after that you’re just old. But I think 22 is going to be a wonderful year full of new adventures, responsibilities, and experiences, and I’m super excited!

2. This week, yesterday to be precise, I finished my online class! WHOOP. This means nothing to do but blog for three weeks until the fall semester starts. And also panic because it’s my last year of college.

3.

saturday fall dress

Kate Spade Saturday released their Fall Collection this week, and I’m LOVING IT. I’m especially taken with their newest pattern, Tic Tac Tile, seen on this adorable Short-Sleeve Shift Dress. Check it out if you have a chance!

4. I acquired a large baguette while I was at home, so I made bruschetta Wednesday night, and it was delicious. Not to mention I felt pretty fancy. I would have done an entire post, but I didn’t think about it until I’d eaten about half of it, and all of my pictures came out looking kind of sad. I used this recipe as a guide, but used cherry tomatoes, skipped the fresh garlic and fresh mozzarella, and didn’t really measure anything. But still, SO GOOD, if you are ever gifted a baguette and you aren’t sure what to do with it, make bruschetta.

So since I’ve been to the gym everyday for about 3 weeks and have been running, I’ve convinced my parents that I’m an athlete. When I told my dad that my ankles had been hurting when I ran, he concluded that I needed real running shoes. We went while I was home, and I got these Brooks Adrenaline GTS 14‘s, and I’m mildly obsessed with them. They have excellent arch support, which was the issue with my old shoes, and they also feel like clouds and move with my feet. So, in one of the greatest plot twists of all time, it’s official: Kristen Moss is a runner- and she #lovesit.

#ShortGirlProblems

Hey Cats!

I hope everyone is having a good week- halfway through!

Okay, so I’ve been meaning to post this for nearly forever. It’s sad. But I wanted to wait until I’d bought a few things on my shopping list that I thought would pair well with this skirt, and then I wanted to take the pictures on my balcony at home, and then I completely forgot about it until five minutes before I left this weekend, so I frantically threw on the outfit and had my mom snap a couple of pictures. I look a little disheveled, and I’m also not wearing much makeup, so there’s that. But I decided I couldn’t put it off any longer, so here it is!

I was recently contacted by Jane from eShakti to do a product review. I hadn’t heard of eShakti, so I did my research and was so pleased at what I discovered! Not only are their clothes adorable, but they offer customization of size and style on every garment. They have this awesome chart with every size from a 0-36, and (my personal favorite) you can enter your height and specify what length you want your skirt/dress. This is revolutionary for short girls like myself! I’ve always wanted to try a mid-length skirt like the one eShakti sent me, but I could never find one that hit in the right place- they all made me look super stubbs. But when I tried on this skirt, I loved the length, not to mention the bright coral color!

photo (88)

Unfortunately, this skirt is no longer on the website, but I love this one and this one. I paired it with my trusty Swiss dot tank from Old Navy (similar), my Kendra Scott Alexandra earrings in chalcedony, and my black wedges from Target for a cute, casual look that’s perfect for lunch with friends! This would also be adorable with a graphic tee and white sneakers for a more trendy look. I’ll definitely be working this skirt into my work and everyday wardrobe!

If you’re like me and have #shortgirlproblems with skirts and dresses, head over to eShakti for a custom fit!

Trends I’m Loving- Graphic Tees

Hey Cats!

Sorry about not posting yesterday- I had an extra-long weekend at home to celebrate my birthday, so I decided to take a break from the blog, too. But I’m back, I’m 22, and I’m readyyyy to parrrrrtyyyy! Or blog. It was an excellent birthday weekend with my friends and family, and I’m a little sad to be heading back to work today- but that’s what growing up is about!

Lately, I’ve been loving graphic tees. I went through a phase in junior high and early high school(LOL) where I loved graphic tees, but then I hated them for a while. However, they’re back, armed with sassy quips, and I need one. Here are a few of my faves:
holy chic

I was so pleased to come across this tee at Old Navy this weekend. I almost bought it, but my mom was with me and she asked the question that kills all impulse purchases: “Are you really going to wear that?” and so I saved it for another day. Probably next week. This would be cute with dark skinny jeans and leopard flats for running around town.

jcrew tee

Next is this linen tee from JCrew that says “Tout Va Bien” (which means ‘everything is fine’ for those of you who don’t speak French, myself included). I like the stripes as well as the words, it adds some interest to a fairly simple style. This would pair well with black leggings and a topknot for those days when everything is not fine and you’re running late because you were playing Kim Kardashian Hollywood in your bed until 15 minutes before you need to leave the house.

kate spade tee

Last is this Two to Tango tee from Kate Spade. I love that saying, and I like the pop of color and sparkle- classic Kate. This would be adorable with a black or navy party skirt and booties for a fun party.

What do you think about graphic tees? Let me know!
